I had a lengthy conversation with Walt Kirst yesterday and he informed met that his Thuer conversion was nearing the production stage! :o

He had a finished conversion ring (per patent specs) and a modified Italian cylinder laying on his desk.
He told me that the plan is to produce the loading tools, conversion ring and to modify an Italian cylinder (now get this for 38 and 44 caliber) and have brass produced and Moulds. Along with supplying instruction for barrel web modification (or send your bbl to Jay Strite).

This should all be available real soon!

Walt told me that he had actually been working on it about four years (we speak frequently about numerous things and he never had mentioned it to me either). He said he laid hands on an original a while back and got to disassemble it an give it a once over. I guess it was then that he decided to really go forward. He explained that because he is not 3D CAD proficient there were a few bugs to work out on the "levers" inside the ring that eject spent casings. But says that he has those bugs worked out now and the machinist just has to incorporate the changes.

I would pick up another Pietta 1860 just so I could have this done!!!

Capt. Willard

I am buying two for sure!
Been waiting for this day and had no idea anyone other than Cimmarron had been considering producing these.
Hopefully they will be for Ubertis 1860 models!
What great news!
Whoooot!!!!!

FYI: Cabela's has the Pietta 1860 Army for $209 right now along with a $20 off coupon gets you $189 (+tax) for a brand spanking new revolver.

I still have a pair of $10 off coupons I can "stack" ... might just order one for the up coming Thur conversion.

There seems to be some spectaculating going on here and I would like to clear up, with Walt, what applications will be available before ya'll start spending yer moola.

I'll get back on here with the results of that just as soon as I can!

We don't want to get carried away with the conversion until it is actually ready to go, but it is very cool to think you can modify your open top in 44!  8)

Spent some time this afternoon with Walt, on the phone.

The Pietta will probably be the best bet!
It uses a longer cylinder and ring and the Uberti will be modified from this product. He intimated that there might even be some minor modification that will need to be done in order to install one in a Uberti (but said if you can cut a loading port you should be able to do this).

Brass is the next hurdle!

The Thuer is in the machinists hands right now! will probably still be a couple of months before we have any ready for sale.

Walt and I are planning to build up a batch on 2nd and 3rd generation Colts before we release them for converting Uberties.

As the ring is the same we will be able to convert both 1851's and 1860's using the original percussion cylinders so that the roll engraving can be retained.

We will definately let ya'll know when they are ready

That is great news!!!!
figured someone must have thought better of this as the news dried up on the subject.
Super glad to hear its not only still happening but close to boot!!!! ;D ;D
Thanks for what promises to be a great product!!!

Capt. Willard

Bump for the latest news on this?
;D

Raven

It's been a busy year for us.  We have had to bump the Thuer back a bit just keeping up with our standard production.
It is still happening and both Walt and I are very excited to be so close to finishing this project.
We have been collecting 2nd and 3rd Gen Colts to build the first batch on.

I will keep you informed as we get closer.
