Hi Y'all,

Anybody use brass shotgun shells?  Do reloaders like MEC, Lee have a problem with them?  How long do they last?  Are they more period correct than paper?  Where do you get paper shells?  What's the life span of brass vs paper?  Is brass better for black powder than paper?

Thanks,
Digger

Fingers;  I believe paper shells for shotguns came first, but that is a quibble.  Both are well within our period, and brass has a lot of advantages.

FWIW, MEC now has a Magtech all brass loading kit for the 600 Jr. Mk-V.  I have one in 20ga and I like it.

Been there, done the brass shells. In my opinion the only advantage is in the style points.
Plastic loads easier and shoots better especially out of newer model shotguns.

Sir Charles - I wasn't reeeeeeeally sure about Brass being first - OK, it was a wild ass guess - but knew someone would correct me if I was wrong.

DD - Guess I'll have to upgrade my MEC now.  Thanks for the info.

Are you saying that you don't have any style Noz????  I coulda swore that you had a little.

Ho Cohagen,

Tall, ok.  Drink, ok too, but not water kindly.

That kit I got from MEC for my 20ga unit was made up custom.  Their stock Magtech all brass shell loader kit is made for 12ga.  Now I'm thinkn' of havin' 'em make me up one for my 16ga.

Tomorrow I'm going to call MEC and get hold of Dave Kern and see if they will make me up a collet for my Supersizer that sizes just past the mid point on 2-3/4" shells.  I like to use the Supersizer as a vice to hold my shot shells when I spin on a roll crimp.  Then, I like to turn 'em around and squeeze the front end also.

When loading all brass shells on the MEC 600 Jr. Mk-V loaders you still have to glue in the overshot wad.  A pie crimp on all brass shells won't work. . . .
