I have been fixing up this 1867 Swede Rolling Block in 45-70, the breech block looked like new, but it was rim fire, so I mark where the firing pin should be, locked the breeck block in a vise and drilled  my hole. with the line that the firing pin was going, I wasn't going to use the orginal screw that goes all the way thew the block and holds the fire pin from comeing out, because the orginal firing pin ( which I have never had or the holding screw) had a place on the firing pin that had been turned down  so wide, to let the firing pin have room to travel. After I had drill the block I knew that the orginal set up wouldn't work, but I thought I could cut a slot in the firing pin and use a shorter screw just so it would let the pin slide in the slot. After I made the firing pin, I found out there wasn't enough meat at the orginal screw hole to cut a slot. so Do I weld up the orginal holes and relocate the holding screw  pin, and place it where I can use the same princable they used? If someone  reads this that has done this, plese tell me how you did yours!

I hear yur cry for help.   Don't know anything about them Rolling Blocks.  But am interested and will follow the thread.   :)
Beware the man with one gun, he probably knows how to use it.

Ace,

On one of the RRB target rifles that I built on an original rim fire action I faced the same problem that you have.  I started by completly plugging the original firing pin hole in the breech block so that I had essentially a solid breech block to work with.

After marking the location for the firing pin on the face of the block like you did I carefully set up the block in my lathe and drilled from the location of the rear of the firing pin through to the front of the block with a pilot drill.  I then enlarged the hole to fit the new firing pin.  I was able to use the existing retaing screw hole in the breech block with a shortened screw and a notch cut in the side of the new firing pin.

I have drawings of the modifications that I made to the breech block and of the the new firing pin.  If you would like copies of these drawings send your name and address to me at wrheller@sbcglobal.net.

Hope that I can be of help.
