;D Well I did it!!! I shot my first Frontier Cartridge match on 11/22/08. I would first like to thank the following people for making it happen. Muddy Creek Sam, Springfield Slim, Fingers McGee, Dick Dastardly and August. I fired my first BP around 1972 in C&B 44 and 36 Remingtons and wanted a faster reload and never went back to the BP. After starting with SASS this year to have fun, I ended up shooting with Gamers who have lost all the reason for shooting CAS. I decided not to be caught up in it and go even further into the "CORRECT WAY" of shooting CAS. Well Pards I am "HOOKED DEEP". Does anyone want to buy an ample supply of that other stuff; I've already forgot what they call it. I used the 45 200 gr mold from DD and it did the job. I'm using my Marlin 357 for rifle until my Thunderbolt returns from the factory. I also have a 92 ordered from Steve Young. I had ordered some Snakebites from Springfield as I don't have that mold and they didn't arrive by Friday. I went out to my casting shop and retrieved some Lyman 150 and put them in the oven to remove the lube. This lube was Lyman Moly Black and did not want to let go. It took me 2hrs to ready them and then pan lube and load until 9:30 Friday night. The bullets arrived Saturday after I came home from the match. The fire and smoke was very nice. The clean up went easy as I used both Moose Milk and Windex with vinegar. The only thing I regret is that it took me all these years to find the real fun. At 61 I can only hope that maybe if I could live until I was 101 that would give me 40 good years. Later on Pards Fairshake

Dontcha feel good about yourself now?  I was the only one on my posse yesterday that shot BP (30 grs in the Remingtons).  A couple folks said how they'd shoot BP if it weren't for the cleaning. I frankly enjoy taking care of my revolvers. It didin't take 5 min per gun and the shotgun was even quicker. It's even more fun with low light conditions as the sparks and flash really shows.

Fairshake,

It's great to hear that you've gone to the tad more dirty side.  Pursuit of the more fun.......smokey category of the sport, and joined the more "Fun-side" of CAS.  When I started, back many years ago, at my first match, I shot a Uberti SAA in 45 and my favorite 1860 repro that I'd bought back in 72, shot them with loads of strictly Goex for some time before I finally got another matching SAA.  I converted to that other stuff for a while but, have been shooting the true powder Holy Black for the last six or seven years  I too have a hard time reasoning why anyone who has the opportunity to shoot the REAL STUFF would shoot something else.  Now, I pretty much shoot strictly Frontiersman at all the major matches I have the good fortune to get to.  Least to say none of us FC or Frontiersman ever finish high in the ranks but, ranks ain't that important, now are they?

I surely hope you get to shoot all the matches you want, sometimes it's hard to hit all of them.  But, in my neck of the woods there's just about some place to shoot within an hours drive or so, just about every weekend of the year.........now that's just GREAT.  Continue in your ways, keep the faith, go and enjoy life. Good luck to you Fairshake!

Fairshake, know exactly what you mean.  Two weeks ago shot frontiersman for the first time using my 1860 Henry and 75 Remis in 44-40.  I was the only one on my posse making smoke and it was a blast.  On the second stage after firing a couple of rounds and having the smoke blow back over the loading table I heard one pard tell his better half, "he's shooting blackpowder".  Durn right I was and I was having a ball.  Had 3 pards start asking about it and all I could do was beam with pride.  Did I win?  Heck naw, but I had the most fun I've ever had.  Only problem with loading and trying different loads and experimenting behind the shop, I'm all out of powder.  Guess I'm going to have to break out the old checkbook to get some more.

Welcome to the Wonderful World of the Holy Black - the one and ONLY TRUE POWDER!!!!  Don't ya just LOVE the whole posse coughin' and hackin'?  And when ya turn around and see the spotters lookin' all sorts of confused cause they couldn't see the targets and they MISSED that "P" you earned but won't give ya because they didn't see it?  Yeah, life's good in the world of the Holy Black....

Can I get an "Amen" from the congregation?

Hey Fairshake, welcome to the fun.  It only gets better.  I have been shooting Frontiersman for a couple of years now and love it.  Not many people where I shoot use black powder either cartridge or C&B. They don't know the fun they are missing.

I also was posting that I shot my first SASS match. I started shooting Black Powder in 1970 and never stopped. I have owned and shot several types of BP guns and rifles since 1970. I still shoot a 50 cal T/C rifle of the percussion style to hunt them deer. I don't agree with the inlines but that is another posting. During my time as a LEO I shot all types of competion and had my fill. I had several friends try to get me to shoot SASS for a long time but I was finished with the competition thing. I finally agreed to go to a match and after seeing how much fun the BP shooters were having I knew I had found a new home. Lets see now , it's been 41 years ago that I started shooting Black Powder so if you consider me a newbie then I'll say Thanks a Bunch!!

Noz

I wondered when someone would read the 2008 date stamp on the first posting.

Sorry I missed you at Bayou Blast. Maybe down the road.

Fairshake

Thanks Noz, I was shocked when I saw the post. I still can't figure who brought it back. I am still having some problems with what hit me at the Bayou Blast. I had a high fever when I left early Sunday morning. I was wanting to have a nice sit down with you and Fingers and that fell through. We will make it a point to hook up again. This Darn Diesel price has got to come down or the wife and I will be shooting nothing but locals for a while. There was a 3 day match here this weekend that was a charity shoot for Fisher House. Fisher House is where families of wounded soldiers can stay while visiting the loved one. I know that was a problem for a lot of families when I was in during the conflict of the 60's. I always try to help any soldier but was still not well enough to go shoot this morning. Take Care David
