A Big Howdy,

Rainin here so off my deer stand early.  Just thinkin out there all afternoon what I would like to do with the rest of my time alloted and came up with the following idea.  There are golf resorts, with condo's, homes ect. all over the country.  How about a Cowboy Action  complex, complete with long range, regular shooting bays, campground.  Probably work best near someplace warm in the winter.

The noise factor is a consideration so it would have to rural, and hpoefully in a hilly area to shield the noise for non-shooting residents.  Sounds to me like the ideal retirement community.  It would be nice to have a central meeting complex for old time dances and costume gatherings-----Whats wrong with taking this lifestyle full time?

We will get  through the current economic crunch, I guess it doesn't hurt to dream ahead anyway.  Feel free to pick this idea apart of contribute to it.

My wife & I talked about doing this just a few weeks ago.

We got a fair sized spread here & were talking about making a CAS range. Not just the range bays but long range as well as an actual town with a working saloon (think bed & breakfast). I got a few miles of trails here & would want to make a stagecoach so pards could tour it as well.

Without going into a lengthy explanation think Founders Ranch East.

We are still in the "dreaming" stage of it. Next I want to get into the brass tacks & start crunching numbers. Probably need to consult with some other range owners cause I am sure there are things I havent thought of yet.

Truth be told, if the idea pans out it will be probably be a few years till we would break ground. The market has put a whoopin on this ole cowpoke.

How about your winters down in Kentuck.  Such a beautiful state, I think it would be ideal.

It would be nice just to have a campground that caters ot Cowboy shooters seven days a week.  The only campground I know of that even has a range is Garry Owen in Montana.   Nice shooting bays and warm weather, long range....Hell put me down for 6 weeks right now.

My wife and I were discussing this awhile back too. Thought it would be a neat thing, although retirement is 30 years off yet.
There is a former church camp here locally for sale, and we thought it would be a neat idea to have Cowboy Camp. It has a small arena for mounted, and could probably be bermed, although not a full set of berms. Enough for a few classes to be taught tho.
Last time I checked the price, it was about 500,000. My big ol house only cost 85,000, so........... :o

Folks, while I think it's a fine idea, there are literally dozens of bankrupt "dude ranches" and "wild west" fun parks around the country, pushed aside by the roller coaster thingees like six flags, disney, etc.

Seems IF a CAS park was the goal, a busted dude ranch is almost a turnkey start (less of course some dirt moving to make berms).  Build ya  a B&B "bunkhouse" (mebbe convert a barn???) put real corn squeezins in the saloon, and awaaaay we go  ;)

I'd be interested in a setup where I could time share a suite.  I don't have the long green to own it year around, but I'd sure think that the time share thing could have merit. Proximity to a general aviation airport would be a plus.
