I have a model 94 30-30 that was made in 1899 that I am going to retire from deer hunting and start using the 45-75. My 94 has an old lyman peep that the holes line up with the uberti. Two questions - the peep stem soes not seem to be long enough for the 76 , Where so I get a longer stem and where do I get screws to mount the base? thanks

Parts, for any of the old Lyman sights are often hard to come by.  The new made lyman has little in common with the old vintage sights, so no help there.  I think I would leave the old sight on the 94 and recruit a new one from Marbles for the 76.  They have screws for the Uberti and can provide stems of almost any length.  If you want to use the vintage sight, you may be able to do so by changing out the front sight.

Hope this is of some help. :-\

Thanks Griz, You know you are right. I am just being cheap. Those vernier or soul sights, and even the marbles are just so dang expensive. But i am going to hijack my own thread and ask you guys a question on what sight I should get, or even if I should get a different sight so here goes- I want to hunt, not going  to shoot at an amimal further than 125yrds if even that far. I want to do some target shooting at my house at 100yrds and I want to shoot some buffalo targets 200 to maybe 400 yards. Now if I am going to pay 150 dollars or more I want it to be historically correct, meaning it could have come with the gun in 1876. With that in mind what are your suggestions. Thanks

Howdy! I selected the Marbles for my '76, because it will adjust for windage as well as height. I believe the one for the 73 may ride a little farther up on the tang, so if you dont have that hole drilled for the front mounting screw on your gun, may want to check into that one- your thumb will hug the tang more comfortably when youre shooting. If that Lyman tang is an older one, you can eBay it and have enough for the Marbles AND a few pounds of powder to boot!!! Just my 2 cents werth....
