Ok, so I've heard the horror stories about the modern Schofield replicas binding up from BP fouling. At the GAF muster I shot a couple of stages with my Wells Fargo model Uberti and never had any problem. About how many shots does it take for them to start getting sticky?

Keep shootin until it stops and then you'll know.  ;D ;D  Every gun's a little different.  Only way to know for sure is to shoot yours with the bullet and powder combination you intend to use.

I have 2 original S&W Russians, neither will get through more than 2 cylinders full before stopping, and that's with Black Dawg Bullets, well lubed.  It's a tight clearance gun, even with the original gun's longer gas ring.

i guess i,ve been lucky. i have two navy arms #3 russians, i get a solid 35-40 rounds threw them before the start to get a little sticky. i shoot 200 grain big lube rnfp lead bullets over 25 grains of goex cartridge b.p. i haven had ant problems yet. use th same load in my 1860 henry and 66 yellowboy. kurt250

Mike Venturino wrote that the most he could shoot out of his original Schofield was about 25 rds. before "vapor lock".

Sgt. Eli

I have run up to 40 rounds each thru my pair of Russians with no hint of trouble. This is with a 165 grain smokeless lube bullet,  1.3 of 2 FF Goex, and a nice grease cookie.

My two first year production Navy Arms Schofield revolvers in .45 Colt's will only do 2 cylinder fulls before having to be hand assisted in cocking them by turning the cylinder by hand while cocking the hammer when using FFF/FF Gunpowder loads. >:(
It seems when N.A. redesigned the Schofield they foregot to take into consideration that there are those of us out there that would Run Gunpowder Loads threw them & made changes in the original Design so that they would Only function properly w/ 'smoke-less' loads.  ???
Bleedin' frustrating if you ask me! now I've to get Bodie to work on them for me so as to make them work properly w/ Gunpowder loads. 8)

Thanks for the replies guys. So what I'm hearing is that you can usually get at least 10 rounds through a schofield before it begins to bind up, depending of course on the gun and the load. 10 rounds through a revolver in a GAF shoot would be manageable. Would it help to spray it down with Ballistol or moose milk between stages?

I wasn't as lucky as the others 5 rounds and lock up, even with APP. Just shoot TB now.
