Russ T,  I can almost asure ya that everybody that dips has had that happen,  it ain't a good thing at all,

since we're past supper time, I'll go ahead and post this,  used to be an old man where I grew up that spent a lot of time down at the Domino Parlor in town, I'd go with my Granddad and hang out down there when he was playin,  the old guy was there everyday, he'd have a big chaw of something in his jaw, I mean a big wad. along at noon he'd get ready to go eat, he'd take out his chaw and wrap it in some tin foil, when he came back after eating, he'd unwrap it and dip it down in his spit can to get it back good and juicy, I've seen him do it a hundred times, grossed me out every time.  :P

OT, I aint et yet!.
S'ok.  In younger days me an a bunch a guys got a motel room in Santa cruz fer spring break.  We was drinkin Jack Danials outta clear plastic cups.  Someone had filled one of the cups with water ta use as an ash tray.  Put enough butts in there an it takes on the color of Jack Danials.  Scott already had a belly full of the hard stuff an chugged that sucker down.  I thought he was gonna die, an so did he.  I never seen that shade of green before.

when I went to Basic Training, there a guy got there same time I did, he was from Cleveland, his hair was down just a little past his waist, got to know him pretty good.  he was always talking about taking drugs, how much he could drink, just what all he could do.
one day we were out marchin and they had a 5 minute break,  I got out ma Copenhagen and got a dip,  he asked me what that was, I told him, he asked if he could have a dip, so I gave him some,  he got it in his mouth and finally got it all gathered up in one place and they said it was time to go. we got up and got in line and started marchin, now all was fine as long as we was walkin but then they called for an airborne shuffle,  so I tossed mine and told him he'd better get rid of it. well he begin to tell me how nothin bothered him, he'd be alright,  took about a half mile,  he started gagging and turning kinda gree aorund the gills, he fell out of formation and he was throwin up as we went past,
that night he came to me and ask to see that can, he had his pencil and paper, wrote down what it was exactly and told me that when he got home he was gonna get some and give it to some of his tough friends,  he said he had never had anything make him that sick,   he thought it was cool.  :o :o

I dipped Cope before I ever smoked. Workin' on the ranch, it was easier to dip and chew than smoke. I played Baseball in college and the coach let us chew and dip in the dugout during the game. I was always careful about the spit cans and bottles. We still had glass coke bottles, so they were the logical ones to use.

Ahh the dip.
Ma Dad was a Cope man an enjoyed Skoal mint as well.  Tolt my Ma he had quit so he would swallow the stuff 'stead of spittin it.  Hid the cans in his shoes where I found it and helped maself.  Went ta an amuzment park on a school trip with a can I had swiped.  Loaded up tween the cheek an gum an went on a ride called the Fiddlers Fling. :-X
I switched ta ciggarettes after that.  They didn't make me clammy an nautious.

Another problem I had with the stuff was that it didn't agree with ma gums.  After a few days they'd start bleedin an gettin swollen.  I decided ta punish ma lungs instead.

The skoal bandits were cleaner to use with the little paper packets. I used them before I finally quit dippin'. I had quit smokin' in 73.

I remeber the bandits.  Guys used ta soak em in whiskey like the tail end of a cigar.
I chewed Redman leaf one time I quit smokin an boy was that a mess.  There must be some kinda science to it that I never figgured out.  Chicks did not dig ma smile ;D

I chewed a lot of Redman back then too.  Women don't really care for the taste of snuff or chewing tobacco when they get kissed. They're sorta narrow minded that way.

strange what memory comes to ya,  ain't it.  hadn't thought about her in years.
