Stoeger Coach Gun Question for CASS shooting

I shot my first match two weeks ago, and I had everything needed at the time but the coach gun. I borrowed a coach gun, that the empty shells flew out easiliy when the shotgun was broke open and jerked rearwards.

I just picked up a new Stoeger Coach gun and I know I will have to do some tuning on it. My question is that it comes with the extractor that moves the empty shells out of the barrels about 1/4 inch. It doesn't eject them, and the parts list calls it an extractor, not ejector. I know that ejectors are not allowed in CASS, do I have to remove the extractor?

thanks

Ken,

No, the extractor is fine.  What's outlawed are ejectors that are spring tensioned and "eject" the empty shells merely by opening the action.  The coach gun that dumped empties when jerked rearward no doubt had the chambers honed.  All sorts of ways to do this.  You can pay a cowboy gunsmith to do it.  You can buy a chamber hone and special honing oil from Brownells and do it yourself.  You can use automotive rubbing compound on cloth wrapped around a 12 gage brass cleaning brush chucked into a 1/4 inch drill.  I did a Stoeger that way and it dumps them right out.  More recently, I used the same rubbing compound on an empty shell.  I drilled out the primer and chucked the empty in a Dremel tool using one of the tool heads with a screw in the end..  If you try to do it yourself, be sure to keep moving the bruss or empty shell back and forth so as not to make the chamber out of round.  Try to spend an equal amount of effort in each chamber.  While you're at it, polish off the rough edges around the chamber mouth to make loading easier.  Also, higher end shells like Winchester AA's with a brass head and smooth body tend to dump easier than the Wal Mart cheap ones with steel heads.

What Coyote said...
I'll add deburr the extractor's mounting hole, mine was rough and had a burr left from machining.
when planets align...do the deal !

Take some extra fine emery cloth to the guide pins on the extractor also.  You will want to make sure the extractor slides freely without any binding.

Can anyone tell me why ejectors are banned, when they were patented by Daniel Le'Fevre in 1883 (in America)?

Can't answer for SASS.  Wild bunch said so I imagine.

Ejectors are legal in NCOWS!  Cause they were patented in 1883 and are period correct.  Just different rules.

Cause the 97 shooters are SCARED that the SXS would then have an unfair advantage. ;D  Personally, at this point I don't think they should be allowed.  Too many folks already have non-ejector shotguns and allowing ejectors at this point WOULD give an unfair advantage between those with and those without ejectors.

You can also use plain ol' Colgate toothpaste.  Takes a while, but those chambers sure do wind up slick and shiny.  I also use it, on a 12-gauge bore mop, to keep 'em that way.
