I'll take that under advisement Bob.  I've been asked before if I could put some threaded holes in the sole plate to hold the extra jags.  Something may be done to do both without vastly raising the price of the product.

Thanks for the suggestion.  It's from ideas like yours that Big Lube®LLC products are improved.

I can't imagine taking my colts apart every time I load. Is this a common practice?

Some do.  ROAs, Rem 58s and the like are easier.  I'm thinkn' the barrel wedges could be lost easy enough.  I'd want spares.

Rems and rogers & spencer would be ideal for this sort of thing. I'd worry about my colts getting excessive wear and becoming loose with that much disassemble-reassemble.

I'm with you on that Roosterman.  The wear and danger of loosing the wedges is a consideration.  Also, my Pietta 1860 Colt reproduction guns have different wedges due to custom fitting.  They aren't interchangeable.  FWIW,  Clint Eastwood used Remington 58s.

DD - I think they are similar to Remmie's but what measurement do you need and I will measure it?

Guys, do not know if it would be financially viable but it would seem to me that a solution to the wedge problems should be do-able.  Not much on metal working but why wouldnt it be possible to market disposable wedges made from bronze to allow a pard to have something that could be easily fitted and used on guns that we want to disassemble frequently?  Wouldnt bronze wedges protect the actual gun from wear while providing a part that would last a reasonable spell before refitting another?  In combination with the external loading rams, something like this would make our Colt replicas a lot more friendly for match use.  A few of us actually load a dozen cylinders for the Remingtons on the night before a match and a quick change ability would allow us to do the same with Colts.

Roosterman

I have shot C&B colt repops extensively for CAS matches and never found the conventional method of loading to be difficult or slow.

I'm quiet happy loading with the cylinder still in the gun, but the short levers on the 5.5" ROAs get a bit hard on the hands after awhile. If I'm only going to shoot a cylinder or two, I don't bother using the stand, but if you are going to shoot a lot, the stand is a Godsend.

I once purchased a large lot of .44 balls (3,000) from a now defunct bullet company, and like many fokes, found that the balls were pretty close to what they were casting smokeless bullets from.  Even using the ram on long barl guns would likely destroy the guns pretty quickly and even an old early Cabellas ram was pretty much shot after loading up for one match.  The heavy duty ram I now have loads them without a hitch, just add a bit of an extension and rap the end with you palm to get them started moving.  I have been restricting this to Remington only revolvers but having Colt styles be made more friendly towards cylinder removal would really be nice!

In another post I related shooting a pair of Uberti '60 models today, while using an external ram for loading.  Everything went great and my old shooting buddy fell in love with my old model ram.  A bit of bargaining and we worked out a deal for him to be the proud new owner of the ram.  He even liked my idea of getting the extra brass parts threaded into the base for storage and said he was going to do it himself.  HMMM, looks like I suddenly find myself in the market for a new loading stand!   ;D

Got to try this new one.  Order is on the way and I think I will use this opportunity to try your specialized tumbling media also.

Thanks Dick, I enjoyed speaking with you and hope you will forgive my hearing problems BUT buying hearing aids would prevent buying toys for a looong time.  Guys, take my word for it, always wear hearing protection, being old and deaf is not macho!

Yep! Poor hearing is not good. Most people seem to think you are stupid if yo can't hear them. I read once that in the Westernn world, people with hearing disabilities are amongst the most discriminated against!

Me too Bob,

I'm going for a hearing test.  If I need an electric ear, I'm going to see about a noise cancelling kind so I can wear them for shooting.  Good talking with you.  Please feel free to call me anytime you have black powder questions.  There's a sign over my desk, says. . .

I ordered a DD Tower of Power stand last year and am glad I did.
I shoot a Rem 58 (Uberti) and run with 2 cylinders for my black powder pistol shoots and CAS.
Saves me a lot of time and effort. Wouldn't go to the range without it.
Was ordered and shipped to Australia with no issues.
Thanks DD

Well, right now I am having a new cart built and will be loading the c&b from it.  My woodworking buddy is even listening to my ideas!  Any of you smart guys who might have figured a really bright way to mount the ToP (neat acronym)  to your cart, I sure could pass along some ideas on that right now.  Do not even ask what happened to the old cart, and it was a good old cart too!
