Anyone ever remove markings on their Pietta barrels???

Thinking about getting rid of the markings on the side of my Pietta Navy revolvers and then "antique" them.

I'd probably yank the silly front brass sight and put a new one in using a  length of brass rod (brazing rod). Get the correct height on it.

Thoughts?

Also, what size lettering were original colts? Not trying to build a "fake", but, get rid of the silly proof markings.

I took the marking off of a CVA  Remington 58 about 30 years back, just draw file. You could send the barrel to http://gunfancy.com/ , He has the proper size lettering to make it look right. I would just send him the barrel.
