Nice and neat. The textured leather really works nicely. Good, balanced pattern, too. Thanks for sharing.

Hay Major 2, that's some fine looking work. I'm still in the midst of a steep learning curve. When you say your die was cut 80% with alcohol, and the olive oil, does that mean you rubbed the oil in after the die alccohol mix? Or did you mix the oil, die and alcohol together?

Still tryin to figure things out! JD

Major, I like it. Is that a piece a bull hide with pigskin liner? I have a couple a pairs a bull hide boots that are tuff e nuff. One pair I have had for about 17 years. Just keep putting more soles and heels on 'em. :D
If it is bull hide I doubt it stretches much. What say ye?
Nice work,

It is bull hide, Johnny McCrae sent me 4 sides of it about a year go ..two in Vat Dyed Black.
it's about 9oz.

The Pigskin I aquired, a few weeks ago an is 1 maybe 2 oz.  about like craft paper thickness

I used Contact ( not water based ) Cement and coated both sides once together there is no stretch
once it's Dyed with the 80/20 mix and is still quite damp in goes the Saran wrapped pistol.
a little shapping and walla .... board stiff and fit conforming.

I too have a pair Bull Hide Cavalry Boots officers knee flap ( These are from Fall Creek and Andy made them for me
in 1989- while we were working on "Glory "
I've used them now 18 years, on horseback and CAS... They still have to orginal sole and only the heel
is due to be square off again in may be a year  ;D

NOW THAT IS A LONG WEAR TESTAMONIAL ....

I am totaly confused ??? ???, I got the same hide, and I don't know how to get my to be stiff and not strech, unless it is that pig skin you are using!
Does pig skin not strech? I sure would like to find something that I could back mine with so it didn't strech, I to love the grain> Here is to that I made rigs out of that leather.
I would be very great full if anyone outthere can tell what is the best way to back it, so it doesn't strech and hold it shape better?
Thanks ACE

Major 2

No .. ;D

I use a small paint roller roll out the Contact on both surfaces, allow to set and join the two
I use a rubber mallet to set the two firmly together
once sewn, I dye with fiebing dye at 80/20 mix and smooth with cool damp rag

fit the gun and the holster will form fit and stiffen as it dries final finsh is two coats of Tan Kote...
