Thanks guys for the kind words.

JD, I'm using 4-5 ounce veg-tan leather. I think some leather workers use 3-4. I wanted to use pebble-grain calf-skin but I couldn't find any. But they used whatever was available way back.

Wiley, that holster is beautiful pard, I suppose as long as there isn't one in the chamber it would be as safe as pie.

Nice work Wiley and Skeeter!

Wiley, the exposed trigger is legal for WB, BUT, it is not legal for some other types of action shooting, at least on our range. We have an Action Pistol club that shoots on our range, and they require the trigger to be covered, I presume mainly due to being cocked and locked on some of their stages. I dont know about IPSC, and all those different groups.

Bob, I recommend the CD produced by Chuck Burrows called 'Frontier Holsters with Chuck Burrows'. He is a top western leatherworker. The CD is available from Center Cross Instructional Videos at  www.ccinstructionalvideos.com

The carving on that holster is great.

Slick, thanks. I'll post that holster.

Boothill Bob

Thans Skeeter, I will get that video...

Boothill, no need to chuck such a beautiful holster, remove the plug and restich the toe without.  A lot of the fellows don't use toe plugs because they can trap dirt and moisture.  If your doing a replica I see your problem, but the holster can be sold without the plug and you can do another.

Bob, toe plugs are hard. Looking at your picture, it appears that the plug has sunk down slightly in the middle. That's happened to me. One way to stop that is to insert a shaped stick in the holster that stops the plug from sinking when you pull on the thread.

Also, I glue together two pieces of leather to form the plug so it's fairly thick. Then I glue it in and leave overnight so it's as firm as possible before sewing.

Boothill Bob

Tanx guys for the tip... Will try that.. The holster may live some more days  8)

You can wet the plug and shove a piece of dowel down in the holster and flatten out the plug.

Thanks to all you cowboys for the kind remarks about the 1911 holster much appreciated.  Boothill Bob what a novel idea, the SASS Wild Bunch handbook, wow!! thanks very much pard.  Now why didn't I think of that :-\?   TW, DM and JD really appreciate your opinions also.

Skeeter,  I really like the authentic old holster styles much more than the speed rigs, and my friend the ones you made are beauties.

Boothill Bob I like your free space.  Good luck on the toe plug you did a great job of sewing it in place and the holster is very nicely done.

Wiley  ;D

Boothill Bob

Does anyone have instructions how I can make a metal lined holster, like an
Evil Roy rig?? I will try to make one, why stop now  ;D

Nice holster BHB, I like the swivel work ya did, my next 3 49ers are gonna have that pattern on them.

I dunt bother with the plugs, I leave my holsters open ended, gives the fuzzy bunnies a way to get out.
