Really nice work, Farmer. The sheath is very cool. The rig works nicely, too. I like that look.

That's a fine slimjim. Nice work on that tooling.

HB, that black holster with the border stamping looks great. I like the busy border with the simple lines. Looks good. Those other holsters look fine, too. Very nice work.

EE, that rig will look very good with those shootin irons in it. Well done.

Nice work, pards. I miss a day and look at all the eye candy that shows up. Thanks for the posts and pics.

Well generally I use Fiebing's Pro oil dye.  As for sealer I've used it all and even some wax based home mixes, however as of lately I've been using Fiebing's Leather sheen or Saddle Lac spray.

EET,
Thanks, I'll check into the leather sheen, dunt want it too sheeny tho, I like the soft semi-gloss effect.

Glad yer back M.Will, carefull of too many sweets Pard. :D

Well I've been asleep at the wheel here with so many posting so much nice work.

I'll likely miss someone, but MHB, Not only great work, but to have your daughter working leather and shooting with you is awesome! I was 40 when my son was born, which certainly wasn't planned! He's about to turn 20, which makes me 39 if I calculate correctly ;D

My grandson from my daughter is five, and he would love to go shoot with me. He hangs out with me in the shop and works on leather, so I have high hopes for him!

Mr Taft, nice Irons and nice holster. I made one similar to that for a friend lately; the first holster I've made that I thought wasn't too bad.

Thanks, Slick. No such thing as too many sweets, though. ;D

Hey MS,

If your lookin' for semi gloss or satin look, I'd go with either Eco-flo Satin Shene orfor more gloss Eco-flo Super Shene.

I've also used Fiebing's Acrylic Resolene.  I haven't used it much or recently, but from what I remember it worked pretty well
and has what they call a mellow gloss to it.

Hope this helps,

Some Ideas look real good on paper and some still look good when they are done but, some ideas just don't fly when it comes to function.
Thought I would try a pancake since I had never made one and I chose a little Sterling .22 that I have. Well the holster turned out OK but its not very functional when you are wearing it.

What did I do wrong, besides using that little 'no grip' ,22 for a pattern.

Oh the handle was broken when I got it and it is in the process of being fixed :-[

Thanks TW, I like the way it looks but that short grip on the pistol makes it a bear to get ahold of when its on your belt.

That holster looks like a good one, GB. I suspect that a little shorty grip like that will be difficult to grab in a hurry no matter what holster you put it in. Is there a magazine grip extension you can put on it to help that?

I know what you mean, I never could use little guns like that because off my big hands.

No mag extensions that I know of but I did find out that once its on your belt, just behind your hip you can get ahold of it. I just wouldn't want to try a speed draw , might hit someone next to me in the head  ::) ;D

Black is the worst, rubbs off on yer clothing.

I miss the Neat Lac, cant get it anymore at Tandy. It's shiney tho

Black Beauty was done in Neat-lac, hung up out in the shed fer a week till the fumes died out. ;D

What we have here, as requested by the customer is a Plain Jane 1911 holster in brown. He did not want any stamping or lines of any sort, so that's what I did. The color is Fiebings oil Dark Brown, two coats, with a light coat of Neatsfoot in between, followed by a coat of Skidmores. I'm going to put a coat or two of some sealer, but I don't know what yet.

The Fiebings produced more red than I would have liked. If someone could give me an idea of how I could have made it a little more brown and less red I would appreciate that.

I posted a picture of the back of the welt a few days ago, but for the most part I've managed to work out the problem. As with each holster I've learned something from building it. I believe the pattern comes from a combination of Outrider and Slowhand Bob, both of whom very generously shared their work with me. It might be one or the other, but they both gave me advice.

As always, constructive criticism is welcomed. Thanks, JD

Very nice job.
To darken brown dye: I wet the project real good and let dye before I put any finish on.
