Hey Johnny, really nice color on the holster, which by the way looks great, with or without color.

Well, I messed around a little today, tried my new (I think it''s called) Tri Stamp. Man, is that thing hard to line up straight. As you can see by the picture, I had a heck of a time figuring out how to get it started. If anyone has any advice on how to use that one, I would sure appreciate it.

I had the holster ready to wet mold when the stroke came visiting, so I did that today. I'm still trying to get a pattern I like for CAS, so this one still has some tweaking coming. I wasn't sure how I wanted the belt attached, so I just sewed a strap on. It's not a method I would recommend, but I was more interested in the shape/size of the holster than anything else. I'm going to dye these black. The sister to this one is done, just now sewing the strap on.

I lined these, for the experience. 3/4 oz veg tan on 8/9 oz leather for the holster. Now I have a new list of ways not to do things, a learning experience.

I don't know if the pictures will attach the way I want them to. It's been a while.

The man with an experience is never at the mercy of a man with an argument.

Very nice holster, Johnny M. I like that rich color and, as already mentioned by Ace, that rosette is really great. I guess I'll have to brew up a batch of black walnut cye this year.

Glad to hear you're at it again, JD. There's nothing better than working with leather to relax and let your body take care of itself.

Many thanks to everyone for the kind words. I greatly appreciate your encouragement.

JD, It is really great to see you back at your work bench. I think you did a very neat job with the Tri-Samp. I also like great job you did with border stamping your Holster. That is one of my favorite stamps for borders.

Nice work all around, pards.

Well, thought I'd show you a recent project -- yeah, another shoulder rig. Seems like I'm doing a ton of them these days.

Anyway, not that different, but using a different edge stamping pattern. I kinda like it. Small, delicate etc...but curious about your all's take.

Much obliged.

Awesome work Dave, I've always liked you choice of borders, " Very Classy " you must have the market cornered on those border stamps, I've never seen them before, very nice to say the least, and the color is nice and rich like your other holster.

Irish Dave beautiful leather work! The construction is very good, the border stamping is precise and unique, the coloring is outstanding.  It is obvious you take a lot of care in your work, any cowboy would be proud to own that rig.

Like everything about it !

Thanks, pards.

The outer edge is a rolled-on embossed line-pattern tool. It's a very old hand tool I bought from an old harness maker/cobbler probably 25-30 years ago and it looked like an antique then.
Middle is just a regular small stamping tool (sorry, don't recall the number off the top of my head, but I'll look next time I get a chance). Main thing is that I used it sideways between two grooves spaced to fit it.
The inner, "funky P" kind of tool is a stamp an engraver friend of mine gave me that is actually intended for metal stamping. He had acquired it somewhere and wasn't using it, so he made me a gift of it.

Truth is, that I'm always on the lookout for interesting items that might make good, period-looking border stamps. Usually come up empty, but once in a while something turns up.

I enjoy all types of Old West holsters, but just keep getting requests for the shoulder rigs. Picked up several orders at the NCOWS Convention last month and am finally just about finished filling them.

Am in the last stages of one for a 5 1/2" Colt for my good friend St. George. I'll be proud to know he's wearing it (if I can ever get it finished).

Maybe I'll get a chance to make something different. Who knows.....

Here is my version of a Will Ghormley pattern.  This is the shooter's single strap saddlebags.  I left off the exterior holsters, thought they would be more versitile without them.  I added the double loop Mexican lace.  A lot of work, but a bunch of enjoyment also.

Those are dandy, Wiley. Definitely 1st Class in my book.

Well Dave, my take on it is,'Real nice a crisp lookin' rig". I like the right and left volutes you used on the border. Very different from anything I have seen in awhile. A bit better than the average bunkhouse stuff. It almost looks perfessional. ;D
