I don't get out much, Marshall. I even made a Gun Belt for my Sidekick, Igor D. Coyote. His Un-official SASS Alias is Bad O. Coyote.

Jack, that rig for coy dog is really neat.

Marshall:

I have attempted several times to add photos of my leatherwork, however it always tells me that the file is too large.  Is there a way to make the file smaller so I can post some pics?

I sent you an emule, pard. Let me know what you think.

Attached are pictures of a cover I made for the butt of my stoeger Coach Gun.

There is a rubber pad inserted inserted to serve as a sort of recoil pad. I have not fired this gun yet with the pad so I'm not sure how effective it will be.

Looks good, pard. You can always put a little closed cell foam under it if it needs a little more coushioning.

Hello Marshal,

Thanks for the tip. I will let you know what I finally end up with for an inner recoil pad.

This was my first attempt in making something like this. I should be able to improve future versions with what I've learned on this one.

I have a Taylor's  Richards-Mason 1851 Navy in .38 Special on the way to me. I cant wait to make a holster and belt for it. "Packing Iron" has been a great resource for ideas for this upcoming project..

Johnny, butt cover looks good.  Need to make something like this myself.  I shoot my shotgun from the hip and the steel butt plate beats the grips up on my holstered pistol.  The shotgun butt stock also gets dinged by the pistol.  Butt cover would help.

You'll have fun making the holster.

Hello SR,

Thanks for your comments. As soon as I shoot it, I'll let you know how effective the pad is and what I finally end up with for an inner pad. As Marshal Will said, some closed cell foam may help.

Attached is a picture of a holster I just finished for a friend.

Nice looking holster Johnny.  Keep up the good work.

Well, all, here's the finale, my first cartridge belt.  I used a base belt of black and a tongue, keeps, cartridge loops, etc. in brown.  I like the contrast.

The first three pictures show the finished product with my rugers.  I think the make a decent set.  I might want to redo the holsters though with something that fit a bit looser.

I used the weave method to make the loops.  I'll keep with this style.  Learned a lot (thanks Marshall and Trailrider).  Next time, a more solid surface, lighter weight leather, and closer cuts with the oblong punch.

The tongue is held in place by three ebony screwbacks.  I choose to do this because for some bizarre reason, my belts (and pants, etc) keep shrinking on me.  I punched holes all of the way through the tongue and belt and as my girth grows, all I'll have to do is unscrew the tongue and move it up a bit.

I chose a simple design pattern for the stamping, floral-ish.  I've learned that I'm not carver and so the simpler the pattern, the better for me.

Anyway, thanks for all of the advice.  I GREATLY appreciate it.  Let me know what you think.  I couldn't of done it without you all.

Good work, Unc. I like simple designs, too. I have done full tooled ones but the simpler designs seem to hold up better visually. The contrast is good, too. With the simple border stamping, it makes the rig look more elegant.

Great Job. Always wanted to get into leather work, but guess I had too many other things to do. Keep up the good work Pard. Happy Trail and God Bless.

This is a rig I just finished for myself. The strong side is for an 1873 Cimarron SA and the cross-draw is for an 1851 RM Navy. Both holsters and the belt are lined.

Nice rig, JM. I like the way you made them look the same although for different pistols. Well done.
