Howdy Pards

I just finished my copy of the Jesse James rig from Will Ghormley's Pattern, I really like this rig, these same holsters will hold my Remington 1875, my Colt SAA, and my Ruger New Model Vaquero's, I can use them in a cross draw or strong side, and twist and draw is smooth and easy, I can see why Jesse James loved to wear this style rig. I finished the leather CowboyWC's way three light coats of oil, and the Skidmores Leather Cream, after each coat I let them  sit in the sun to sun tan, and also after the Skidmores Leather Cream. So here they are  :D

Howdy Pal
You did a great job on the holsters. I think this is your best set so far.
You make me proud.....

Speakin' of saddles......anybody have a resource for old west saddle patterns and construction. The half seat saddles with the seperate jockeys from the seat and all? I have found some real nice pictures on the web of the 1870's style saddles but no details on how to make 'em. Riggin' patterns and such? I found a tree that will work on the Bowden saddle tree site.  ;D

I believe Will Ghormley has them.

Thanks for the kind words Pard, and you're right, I feel real good about the way they came out, I'm really starting to enjoy the leather carving and tooling, I thought this Jesse James leaf pattern was kind of unique, from what we normally see.

Thanks for taking a look  :D

Nice work Dave, thats some good looking tooling, very unique stamping , and your Laramie fits perfect in it, you did a real nice job of designing this holster, and you always give your work a special look with your choice of border tooling , WELL DONE PARD.  ;D 8) I really like it, and the way you laid out your picture, looks like it's right out of Packing Iron. :D ::)

:o TW, you are smokin :) :) The JJ Rig is incredable :) One thing about it, the first time you wear that rig to a shoot, you will when for sure, because everyone one there will be so distracted by the workman ship of that rig, there consintration factor will be crap. What did you use for dye? Color is awesome, and the detail KILLER !

Thanks for sharing, i am pumped up again!!!
ACE

:o Dave, AWESOME, love the flow of the design verses the border, I would love to have a close up of the border, it okay if you don't want to! One thing I don't like about skirt Holsters is the skirt pucker, but on your's you did such a perfect design layout and you cut it to a tee!

Great Job Pard

Howdy Ace  :D

Thanks Ace for the flowers on my Jesse James rig, it was fun to make. I didn't use any dye , I did this the CowboyWc way, I did three light oilings with sun tanning in between, and then a final rub down with Skidmores Leather Cream, and then a final sun Tanning, and thats it, and I'm liking this finish more and more, and it's totally natural. ??? ::) :o 8) thanks for your comments pard. :D

TW,
the color makes the JJ design stand out like a 50 Gold peice lying on the black sand of the Kona Beach. Three more rigs, and i am going to set down and trace out a nice pattern, and do my best, I might be bugging the heck out of you and others When I start,I don't think I will have to because I have read 3 books and understand the princable of it. I am just not ready, all the stuff I have made has been made out of scraps, I just want to practice and practice, without spending money I don't have, when I know and have the confidence that I can do a job to be proud of, that is when I will use good quality leather, but I will be!

Niced work Dave. You captured the look perfectly. That could also hold a Colt DA or a Merwin-Hulbert and look good.  Be sure to put a close--up of that border on our border thread. Nice work. Thanks for sharing.

Many thanks for the kind words, pards. Much obliged. There's a lot of good work on this board and I'm pleased to be part of the exchange.

Ace & Dalton: I'll try to send you a closeup (e-mail or PM whichever I can get to work.)  ;D Actually the stamping is very similar to what I used on the shoulder rig with only a couple of changes.

Dalton: That's a Beretta Laramie fitted with repro S&W grips. They fit my hand much better than the "tree stump" factory grips and the checkering gives a good hold -- plus I think they're much better looking.  It really takes very little fitting to make them work on the Laramie -- it's a pretty close copy of the New Model No. 3, especially in the grip area.

Will: Yeah, it's kind of the generic pouch shape of the later Old West period (by intent) and could no doubt fit a variety of revolvers with little or no modification. I do know it also fits my original S&W .44 DAs.

***********

By the way, the belt is sporting one of my $4,000 buckles.

Well, maybe I should explain......
A fella I once knew gave me a pretty good sized string of these old rectangular iron/steel buckles since he knew I did old-timey leather work.
My wife (at the time) later divorced me and married him.

After doing the math, I figure the buckles cost me about $4000 apiece.
Now you know the rest of the story.

:-\ ;)

HorsePen:
Thanks much.
I used a blend of browns and cordovans, thinned and applied in multiple coats. Hand rubbed/buffed between coats. I like that it creates a nice sheen without being shiny. In reality, I probably never end up doing it exactly the same way twice. I generally just adjust blends, coats and rubbings till I'm satisfied with the finish.
