After looking around for a holster for my S&W New Departure, and failing to find one, I decided to try my hand at making a holster. I think I did about everything I could wrong, but it's mine and I plan on using it. Many thanks to Chuck Burrows (Nolan Sackett) for his help when I got stuck.

First attempt at carving also.

Doc- I think it looks great!

At first I took it for a vintage original holster.  I don't know if that is what you were trying to accomplish, but it looks very convincing!

Nice job :)

Thanks, and I did want to get an aged look. Nolan Sackett is a master and gave me some pointers. I used to build powder horns and engrave them and I antiqued them so they looked period. Thats half the fun.

That's a fine holster, Doc. Looks good. What will your next one be?

Marshal, I have three knives I want to make sheaths for soon as I figure out what kind (belt, boot, etc.). Might make one for a derringer I have. Been trying to sell the derringer but might help to sell it if I made a holster.

Be sure to post pics, Doc. You make a good-looking holster, it may help.

Here is my second holster and my first belt - made to match my first holster I made a few weeks back.

I made it with leather I had on hand, the belt is a bit too flexible for my liking (made with 8-9 oz) but it turned out nicely and I learned a few things...again  :D

Here's another photo - a bit closer. I was actually able to get a grip on using the creaser to get the grooves in the bullet loops looking the way I wanted.

I agree!
Very Nice.
I like the combination of stamps you used on the belt.
May have to steal that....

You're welcome to the design, I'd like to say it was my idea but that's not the case  :) The pattern was pictured on the outside of the pattern pack I used for the belt. The picture was kind of blurry but after a little closer study I got it.

I'm practicing my carving skills these days, but I'm also facinated with border designs, especially the late 19th century patterns. I have a copy of "Packing Iron" and "Cowboys & the Trappings of the Old West" but I'm always looking for more good examples.

Feel free to post pics of your piddling anytime. I like all types of leatherwork. Here'a a pic of a chair I made a few years ago. The frame is thin-walled mild steel and chrome moly tubing. I welded jigs as I went to make more frames if I want to. The leather was wet molded to fit the pieces.

Hey Marshall,
I don't call that piddlin', I call that art and my compliments to the artist.

Will, you woulldn't consider....?

Would you?
People like me are the reason people like you have the right to bitch about people like me.

Thanks for the kind words, Charlie. I keep thinking I should make another one, but it's a might amount of time to toss one of those together. When I have more time, I will, though.

40R, that would take some serious consideration. :D

My latest quiver and arrow.  Quiver was stiched with sinew (kind of a pain!).
