Skeeter, I don't know what the first holster carving looked like, but this one is a keeper, very nice work all around, and the money belt looks first class too, your stitching is beautiful. WELL DONE Pard. ::) :o 8) ;D

Boy Skeeter, you did a great job on that holster, something to be proud of for sure!

BhB with the amount of work you put into those saddle bags you deserve the money. If someone asked you to make something like that they need to understand the work involved. You can buy a cheap set of bags on E-Bay and that's exactly what you get: a cheap set of bags. Quality costs money no matter what the product, and you can't buy that kind of quality just anywhere.

Just my 2 cents

Thanks for the kind words, pards. The encouragement is worth a lot.

I go to thinking after the talk about how much work was in the loading strips and not being able to get your money out of them.
I played with a few ideas and this is what I came up with.

No sewing required. One strip of leather for loops on both sides. Not counting my stamping and dyeing time (they would look good plain), I have about an hour in it. The shells are looped through from one side to the other. It holds 11 on one side and 10 on the other.
Here are the step by step pix.

Cheer up things could be worse, sure enough I cheered up and they got worse.

Howdy WC,
Not only is this Loading Strip a very practical and easy to make design, your tutorial on how to make it is excellent! You have a real talent for teaching. Thank you for sharing it with us.
You need to learn to like all the little everday things like a sip of good whiskey, a soft bed, a glass of buttermilk,  and a feisty old gentleman like myself

Howdy Johnny
Thank you.
I'm going to do a write up on it and sumit it to the Leathercrafters & Saddlers Journal. We'll see if they accept it.

I was in to see Wayne over the weekend, and he had something to show me, it was this loader, of course it wasn't just another carrier, it was two pieces of leather tooled on both sides and cemented together, WC is a whiz when it comes to thinking things out, and this was a good example, and now hes thrown in a tutorial ta boot, I know I told you all that WC is my mentor, and even after all this time, I still am mesmerized by his tooling and carving, his business is like a candy shop to me, and I can just wander around looking and starring at all the beautiful work he has done, I really feel blessed in this way, I just wanted to share that.

Your lucky to be able to be that close and visit.I remember when i was about 13 -15 and i would go into Bill Enos place and watch him and look around,he was the best around here.I'm gonna post a little video for WC to look at,it's a saddle i saw in a local antique store,i met the lady that owns it,but she doesn't ride anymore.I'd give alot to be able to go see Bill right now.. :-\

I second this one. Its always a great pleasure to see what WC is working one and even a great one learning by watching it come together. Very glad to have the extreme pleasure of being one of his students!

I was in there one time (and met 10 Wolves to boot) and that was enough to make me want to drive almost 1000 miles to do it again!

WC, that is a great design; very practical yet fairly easy to execute, though mine would not look that neat for sure. Never mind the stamping; I'm talking about the cutting process!

Those are great looking stamps WC, could you ID them for us?

Thanks, JD

The Dbl rope Basketweave is from Bob Beard and the 3 heart boarder is from Barry King.
Thanks all for the kind words. This one was fun.

That's a very ingenious arrangement, Cowboy - the double sided loops. Great stuff.

This is my next carving piece after the holster I posted. I bought the original when I was eighteen, which is (ahem) a few years ago. It's amazing that it's still usable. But I decided to give it an honorable retirement and make one just the same.
