I like to brag on my Brother, Montana Slick. I am very proud of the work he did on my gunrig. My pistols are shiny stainless and they really set the rig off.

On a separate thread I asked about a simple Mexican loop pattern. I got a lot of helpful responses for which I am grateful. Needing a holster right away I took Will G's Cattleman pattern, modified and enlarged it just a bit and slammed this out last night (that qualifies as slamming for me, Kid Terico would have made two of them plus a belt, lined and stamped at a minimum)

It's not completely dry, and I will make several modifications on any further ones I might make. I needed a holster for the range tomorrow to give someone, but I was really short on time, so I did the least I could get away with on this one. Chuck Burrow's DVD sure comes in handy as a refresher!

This will likely be the least fancy holster we see here for quite a while, but I believe it will be functional, which is what I needed.

JD, I really like all the fancy rigs and they are truly works of art, but, that in my opinion is a first quality, truly cowboy holster.
Very nice sewing, very clean lines and very well executed work.
140 years ago you would have seen probably 200 of those and maybe one real fancy rig. That type of work is what this craft is all about. A wellmade and very functional tool. Not to be confused with a richmans toys, that holster is exactly what everyman would have wanted.
The examples that we have today are predominately the fancy rigs because no one used them very much. The rigs they used, the ones they counted on for their lives, were the ones like you have made.
I personally think that the beauty of an item has a lot more than just the outward appearance to stand up to. You have made a "tool" in its finest form.

Thanks Gentlemen, I appreciate the thumbs up. The main reason I built this was to do a Mexican loop for the first time, and to see how it fit for CAS. I learned a lot from this one, so I expect to see improvement on the next one.

I should have done that 2 needle one thread saddle stitch a long time ago! Once you get the hang of it, no problem, and the stitches look better than the method I was using, as least for how I was doing it. I've seen other guys work with different types of stitching that looks fine.

Howdy Pards,

Here are some pictures of a single holster rig I just finished.  The holster is a "Duke" style crossdraw with an oil finish (pigskin lined).  The drop loop is attached with "T" nuts and screws and is  moaca color to coordinate with the oil finsh.  The belt is a tapered 2 1/2" wide belt as opposed to the standard money belt style normally associated with the Duke.  The bullet loops are also color coordinated with the moaca color.  Customer has not seen this yet so I hope he likes it.
