Howdy Mr. Taft,
Those are some great looking Holster's you have posted there! A nice variety of looks and finishes, very well done. Many thanks for sharing your work with us. Please keep em' coming.
You need to learn to like all the little everday things like a sip of good whiskey, a soft bed, a glass of buttermilk,  and a feisty old gentleman like myself

Dave Cole

EE, those are some nice looking holsters.Dave :)

JD Alan

EE Taft, when Dave Cole says nice lookin holsters, he must be comparin them to his. His holsters are really good lookin and so are yours.

I've tried some two tone practice myself, and have not met with success. So like Missouri Half Breed I'm wondering what advice an accomplished guy like yourself would give to those wanting to improve on their two tone efforts.

Thanks a whole bunch for sharing those pictures, and any advice you can give is also greatly appreciated. JD

EE, those are some mighty fine looking holsters.  I really like the design. The basket weave on that close up shot is very well done. Good job on the coloring also.   :) ;) :D ;D

Thank y'all for the compliments.

Oh, MHB, on the two tone jobs I got a letter and a word for ya.........

Q~TIPS!!!! I had a job come in some years back and the guy said " if ya can't two tone it, I don't want it!"
Now, mind you, I've done the "sunburst" look on some before where it is light in the middle faded out to dark,
but this guy wanted it to match his truck!! two tone brown.

After some trys and fails my wife said "Here honey, try a Q~tip."

I figured two things out that day.

1. Q~tips work!!

2. Wives is smart!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Give that a shot and go slow, it'll work for ya.

One other bit of advice on the two tone.

If you notice around the area that I two tone there is a swivel knife line that marks the tooling area.

Make that line nice and deep. The deeper the line the better protection you have against bleeding over.

Hope this is of some help.

JD Alan

EE Taft, thanks for that tip on a deep line around the work. Thant's not something I would have noticed.

I think your work and Dave Cole's are both outstanding!

I'm posting a picture of this mag pouch, still damp from dye by the way for two reasons. One, because I told Marshall Will I would. I got the pattern from him, and though it looks nowhere near like the one he made he was still kind enough to take the time to talk it out with me.

The second reason I am posting a picutre now, is so I will have something to compare it with when we hand out "The Most Improved" award this year. The winner gets to spend a week taking lessons at WC's place, at their own expense of course ;D

I'd not tried something like this before and went about it all wrong. Now that I've made one the wrong way I'm going to see if I can improve on it; not the design, but my execution of it. The sewing is terrible, and trying to get things to line up and punch holes working with wet leather is something else. Cutting straight lines is really critical for something as linier as this piece. I didn't take time to finish any edges or anything like intentionally.. It is a practice piece.

A 1911 holster is no good without a mag holder or two so I need to work something out to make a half way decent one for my friends.

If someone wants to discuss how to go about this on a PM with me I'm all ears (and thumbs it appears)

Looks good to me Pard.

Mag pouches with those pocket type pouches ain't easy to do, but you've pulled it off nicely.

Great work!

EE T, if you have some other method of building mag holders I sure would like to hear about it. I figure the more ways to do things the more ways I have to foul things up!

Thatis pretty much the same way I do it.  I have sometimes wrapped the bottom around to the back of the pouch for stitching, but it is much easier to stitch.

Sorry for the sloppy post, I'm holding my six month old girl and typing at the same time.

Dave Cole

JD,I have done mag holders like those before and those are probably more period correct than my other methods. Here's a couple of more ways to do it.Dave  :)

This style was flapped and built up like a knife sheath with welts and then sewn to the belt per the customer.

This is the style on use on most modern day guns.

EE Taft

I wannna be just like Dave Cole when I grow up............ ;D

Beautiful......just beautiful.

MontanaSlick

Just started a project on a set of holsters, thinking I'll give the tool job a try, just have to select a pattern I kin work with.

We have a Stohlmans pattern and how to book at the store we can use. I tried a duck but turned out more like a allegator.

Speaking of allegators, that a mighty fine 1911 holster Dave, period correct or not.
I like the ranger type belt, fact is, the whole rig is great.
