Good lord AC why dont' ya just make a museum piece :o That dye mix is the cats meow ain't it! :) :) :) You better get registered :-\

Hay GCR, are you the one who posted the Cats Meow method?
Dang, that dye went on so smooth and filled in every nook and kranny. Didn't use much either.

TW great lookin knife sheath, thats an unusual lookin knife.  I am glad I took my time on the rifle scabbard.  I am really pleased with the way it turned out.  Thanks for the nice words.

GCR, I don't think I can be included with museum quality yet, but it did turn out great.  Thanks for the comment.

Montana, looks like you've got a good grip on that leather carving really nice work ;) :D.  Mighty good of ya to give your wife a carved rose... man that just about choked me up bud  ::).

JD, you did a first class job on that 1911 holster very well done prad.

TW, very nice leatherwork on that sheath amigo.

Now JD and TW, what is this customer thing y'all both mentioned ???  Heck, I can't hardly give my leatherwork away as a door prize.  Hmmmm I must be doing somethin wrong :-\,

Wiley ;D

Kid Terico

AC thats a out standing all around job, color workmenship, carving ect. You out did your self.. KT

Kid Terico

TW you have to show more of your work. Its great. I couldnt figure the shape of the sheath till saw the knife. :) Thats what I call CUSTOM.  Thanks for showing.. KT

Johnny McCrae

Howdy AC,
That is one beautiful Scabbard you have made! Everything about it is first class especially the carving. It looks right out of the pages of "Packing Iron".

Howdy TW,
Another outstanding piece of leather work from your shop. The carving and design are excellent. This sheath really compliments the knife in every way.

Many thanks to you Pards for sharing your work with us.
You need to learn to like all the little everday things like a sip of good whiskey, a soft bed, a glass of buttermilk,  and a feisty old gentleman like myself

Marshal Will Wingam

Wow, AC. That scabbard came out really great. The color is rich and shows off that tooling perfectly. Niced work.

TW, I like the slheath. It's different and totally correct for the piece. The triangles look good, for sure. Very good work.

WC, let me make sure I understand you ('Cause I'm guessing I don't)

Do I wet the leather real good then dye it, or dye it, then wet it down real good and let it dry before doing anyting else to it.

Or, none of the above? Thanks very much, JD

Howdy JD
When I have dyed something brown and it's not dark enough after it has dried, I will wet it real good and normally it will dry much darker.
Hope this helps.

Howdy MS
Nice job on the carving.
The only thing I can see that needs a little more work is walking out the beveling tool marks. You get that down and you'll be on your way.

Howdy AC
Nice job on the scabbard. I really like the tooling pattern. A little less background area would help to keep your eye on the pattern.
Pattern for the 1911 is very cool. Can't wait to see it finished.

Thanks WC for the comeback, I agree on the background, got carried away I think.  As far as the 1911 holster, I have it stained and tooled am in the process of lacing the holster with double loop lacing.  I may have bit off more than I expected.  Lacing is very time consuming.  I also lined it.  Will put up pics soon.

Thanks AC,GB, Wiley, KT, Johnny, Marshall Will, and WC, your kind words are much appreciated, this was a different type sheath for me to do, that knife is really nice, and the way the maker wrapped the cord is pretty amazing, I made this sheath to my customers exact specifications, I hope he will be happy with it.

Thanks again for taking a look

WC, that is Exactly what I wanted to know. Thanks for that, I will know now for the next time

For all you guys who weighed in on my last holster, thanks very much. Besides Outrider and Slowhand Bob sending me patterns, Kid Terico also sent me a pattern that he developed for the 1911, and his advice has been most helpful and appreciated.

10 Wolves, that is an awesome looking knife and sheath, really off the hook stuff!

AC, you are doing amazing work! That scabbard turned out to look fantastic, and you should be very proud of that piece. The holster you are working on now looks great. I have managed to misplace my Stohlman holster book (How I did that with something so big I do not know!) but your design looks familiar. Is that where you got the idea?

Wiley, I use the term "Customer" loosely. I've got a group of guys I shoot with who are asking me to make things for them. At this point I'm giving them away or asking for whatever they think is fair to help cover costs. I haven't felt my work was worthy of asking money for to be completely honest!

Slick, I'm sorry I didn't back quick enough to tell you about Skidmores, but I knew someone would give you some good info. I read about it on this forum, and after using it, I haven't found anything I would want to replace it with.

Mr. Wiley glad ya liked the leather, there's a lot of it going around.

The Misses got all choked up too, glad she liked it.

Looking for the next project, gonna do some tooling on a set of holsters, I'm like you, I end up giving it away sometimes.

Pards in need etc.

Good night all,

MS

MontanaSlick

No problem JD, I just need to find a local source for the Skidmore or have it shipped.
I'd like to try it.

Thanks

JD, your on your game.  That is exactly where I got the pattern, Stohlman's Holster Book.

AC, I believe Dalton has used that pattern very sucessfully, and maybe the carving design as well. I'm looking forward to seeing what your carving looks like. You've been doing such a great job on everything you do I'm sure this project will look great too.

Slick, I had my Skidmores shipped direct. They were real good to work with. It's been a while since I ordered their product, but I seem to remember it was a small family company. I've used Montana Pitch Blend too, but I like Skidmores better, just a personal opinion.
