JD Alan

I finished up this 1911 holster this morning. I made it to match, as closely as possible the SAA holster on the left. My friend Dawg Leg Don has a really fancy Buscadero rig, and he wanted a holster for his 1911 that he could use in place of the SAA holster.

Once again I learned a lot by making this rig, and I will do some things differently next time, but I'm fairly happy with how this one came out. I highly recommend Standard Rivet's spot setters. They made setting this many spots a breeze. The back is attached to the holster body with 3 Chicago screws, so it can easily be swapped out for the other holster when needed

I had to come to the forum a couple of times to figure things out, so thanks to all of you helped out.

Beautiful Sheath! That is a pretty nifty design coupled with your usual First Class workmanship. Many thanks for showing it to us.

That really looks beautiful, Cowboy. The tooling is great and that color sets it off nicely.

Very nice job of making a matching holster, JD. Your work is getting very good.

Kid, the two tone leather looks really good with the snakeskin inset. Very nice work.

Thanks to everyone for the comments. KT

JD Alan

Thanks for the kind comments guys. Just to be clear I only made the 1911 holster. The SAA holster came from a well known maker; I was asked to try to make a 1911 holster to match it as close as possible. There is some stamping on the SAA holster we elected not to include on the 1911 version.

WC, I can see where a guy with as much experience as you could come to hate spot setting. I had a terrible time with it until I bought a couple of setters from Standard Rivet. I'll never use the Tandy spot setters again. Even Standard's rivets are superior to Tandy's. I need to buy a couple more setters, then I'll be set ::)

Kid Terico that is one fine looking sheath. Your granddaughter is going to have a great time showing that off to her Marine buddies. She will tell them with great pride that it was custom made for her by her granddad. I'm sure she will value that for the rest of her life.

If you get a chance, please tell her that you have some leather working friends that really appreciate her service to our country.

Thanks again guys, JD

JD, you did real good on that 1911 holster great leatherwork a very impresive duplication of the SAA holster. Very  cool 8)!!

KT, very nicely done to say the least.  Your grand daughter is going to be over joyed with the knife and sheath what a neat gift idea.   ;D

JD that turned out fantastic.  You did a great job on design and your spot setting is right on.  I guess I'll have to break down and buy one of those spot setters.  Got to be easier than the way I do it.

I don't recall what Tandy charges for a set of spot setters, but you have to buy them individually from Standard Rivet, and of course you need one for every size spot you're going to use. AT $18.00 a piece they aren't' t cheap, but my experience with the Tandy setter and all the different methods I read about wasn't working for me, so I bit the bullet. I've got to say it's been one of the better tool purchases I've made

After a close review of this holster by someone I consider a friend and far better leather worker than I am, I've got a few more things to work on to get it just a little better looking. There are some things I can't fix, like deeper stamping, but some things, like the edge of the welt I can and do plan to deal with before I deliver it on Saturday.

Thanks again for all the positive feedback, but I really appreciate the comments that help me improve!
