JD Alan

This is a Slowhand Bob pattern (thanks Bob!) that I made a little larger, so I could line it. The buddy I'm making it for wanted it lined. As you can see it's not done yet. I still need to do some finish. I haven't rivited the keeper strap on yet, waiting to get the finish on. The other holes are for a belt keeper.

I see some changes needed on the basket stamping, and several other areas, but it's better than the previous one, so I guess that counts for something!

I put a finish on my guitar strap I didn't like, so I'm going to make another one.

Looking good JD, nice color. Good compact piece. It should more than do the job. KT

Gun Butcher

JD, I see you have been busy. That one is going to look great and you did a real good job on the basket weave. Is that one of those high dollar stamps you used along the border?
Lost..... I ain't never been lost...... fearsome confused fer a month er two once... but I never been lost.

KT,
Thanks for the heads up on the grips, and i love the holster you made for the guns with the Aces grips! Great job!!

JD,
Super looking wild bunch holster!! I have not made one for one of my 1911's, but i hope to someday!! I didn't see the flaw in the basket weave, but I think that we are our worst cridets?(Bad spelling) You are doing a great job!!

Howdy Kid,
QuoteKid, I don't think I have ever seen a rig as beautiful as your new one. That just does it for me. The rich deep color and the flow of the stamping, along with the style is just a TOTAL package. You have just given me new inspiration. I need a picture that I can have made into a poster of that rig to put on the wall of my shop so that all I have to do is sit there and look at it when I need to remember where I want to be with my leatherwork. Thank you sir for allowing use to share. It is the apex of our craft.
You are truly a master.
Gun Butcher expressed what I wanted to say far better than I could.

Howdy JD,
Very nice job on the 1911 Holster! You are turning out some great looking work. Thanks for sharing this with us,

Pard you did a great job on this Wild Bunch holster, I think your friend is going to be blown away with it, I wouldn't be too hard on yourself, I think your stamping looks fine, and when it's finished it will look even better, Slowhand Bobs design is a dandy, I ll have to try this myself, as soon as I get a 1911, I like this one with the ambi safety, for lefty's like me.

JD Alan

Thanks for the positive comments guys. The important thing for me is to recognize my mistakes so as to correct them next time. The border stamp is a Craftool D 607, but the basket stamp is a Barry King I picked up last year at a leather trade show, the only one I've been to. I spread the basket stamp out too much, and didn't hook the legs.

I used Bag Kote cut with water for a resist, then used Eco Flo tan antique gel on the outside. It's got a coat of Bee Natural saddle oil on it now, then I will use Skidmores. The lining is just oiled, but I'll put Skidmores on it too.

I used a machine to sew the liner, and hand stitched the main seam. The problem with using Photo Bucket for pictures is the quality is so good you can really see the flaws!

JD,

Ease up on yourself there pard!  Looks great up close to.  Remember, we see what you did, not what you had in your mind to start with.  Great looking holster!! ;D

JD, I think that looks great!! Yes, the basketweave is a little long in the tooth, but it still looks even and straight. Wouldnt worry about it until you do the next one!
Stitching looks good too!

Hi Ace and thank you. I  buy raw Damascus billets from several damascus makers and then cut and shape my own blades, and do my own heat treat.I even tanned the snakeskins.Dave ;D

MontanaSlick

JD, what are you using to make the holes for the main stitching?

Flaws? Never look fer em myself,is ther flaws in the Mona Lisa? :)

JD Alan

Montana, I keep reminding a friend of mine who builds bunk beds to support his family since being laid off work that he's not building a frame for the Mona Lisa! I guess I need to listen to my own advice.

To punch holes, I use an Osborne Hammer awl, an idea from Chuck Burrows. I use a Dremel with a small drill bit to punch through the welt, an idea from several guys here on the Forum.

Here it is pretty much finished. It's for a hefty guy, so having the holster tilt out some is real handy. This is my first 1911, and I sure do appreciate Slowhand Bob's pattern and tutorial.

JD the finished product is very nice. I like the contrast in color. KT
