All the good lookin' stuff around here lately! Quite the treat to pop back in and see it!

Whipped together a rifle sling yesterday for my new SKS. Double rivets up top, and stitched as well.

Hand sewn and hand buffed to a shine. The thread is four-core right hand twist wax-coated poly. Very heavy duty stuff. Probably overkill, as this was more or less just a mock up. Hence the oversized snaps, which were all I had at the time.

Sueded latigo keeper with a tab sewn in to make it easier to pull, but stay snug.

Pretty large snaps, but all I had at the time, LOL.

Enjoy!

Howdy RT,  :)
That is one mighty fine looking gun strap! I think a lot of times we get caught up in trying to make something fancy that we forget the beauty in the neatest of the simple items we use!
Thanks for sharing.

Been making more modern gun leather, and there's less fancy involved in that. So the fit, finish, form and function really have to be what is beautiful about this stuff. A nice reminder.

Good looking work there RT. I'm looking to stitch a gun belt very soon, and I'm planning to stitch it after dyeing, because I want the thread to stay white, to match the holster I'm making the belt for. Does this sound like the right order of things? Thanks, JD

Howdy Gents :D

I just finished a belt that I messed up on an order, I was thinking left handed as I am , and put ten bullet loops on the right side of the belt, so I had to make another belt for him, I went back to this belt a couple weeks ago and decided to put full bullet loops on the belt just to make it work right. I dyed the front of the belt in my walnut dye for 7 days, then put in my liner, the finish is just two coats of Neatsfoot Oil, and three coats of Skidmores Leather Cream, I let it sit for a few days and then buffed it up, the liner was finished with two good coats of Neatsfoot, and when dry, a couple light coats of Tan- Kote, followed by Skidmores, then buffed clean, the holster is a Cheyenne holster, for a 5 1/2" barrel Colt SAA or clone, the Ruger new model or old model also fits well  which is what you see in it now, I originally made this holster for a Ruger Super Blackhawk 44 mag, after adjusting my template, a little I came up with this style, which has a deeper opening at the hammer, and a wider skirt.

Thanks for taking a look see

TW ... really like that ... that walnust dye gives a really nice mellow brown. I need to cook the walnut hulls I got from the tree in my pasture and make me up some of that.

I also love the border work there. Really nice stuff.

Howdy RT,  :D

Thanks for kind words Pard, this walnut dye is so easy to use, I think I'm spoiled, I'm still using the same batch I made over two years ago, although I've added to it twice, I've got maybe 10 or 12 gal. in one container and about 3 gal. in another container, the largest one is big and deep enough to handle larger projects.

Thanks again for for taking a look see of my latest gun rig

That's a very nice sling, RT. I like the color a lot. The double stitching is a nice touch.

TW, that rig looks good. Very good finish for that type of holster & belt. I like the walnut dye. I still have some of the pecan dye I made from Ace's pecans. I have some black walnut hulls to boil up next time I need some darker brown.

JD thanks for the kind words pard, got your pm.

Marshal Will, thanks pard, I think you will like the results the black walnuts give you, I find leaving my piece in the dye for at least 7 days gives me what I'm looking for.

WC, I can only say thanks for being my mentor, you opened a whole new world to me.

Dalton, thanks for your kind comments pard, it's much appreciated, and it's good to have you safely back from your vacation.

Johnny McCrae, thank you for your friendship and kind words, as you know these natural dyes are a kick to work with.
