Ten Wolves Fiveshooter

 Howdy Gents  :D

I just finished a new holster, it's a Mexican one loop variation, with a wide skirt and adorned with brass and nickel spots of different sizes, the leather is a 7/8 ounce veg-tan leather, the color was done with strong cold cowboy dark roast coffee that was cook over two days, the finish was done the Chuck Burrows way, distressed and made to look old and used, I added some blood look a like stains by putting a few drops of vinegaroon on it, I'm making a money belt to go with it, and will post a picture of them together when finished.

Thanks for taking a look see  ;D

Howdy Ten Wolves,

Simply Beautiful! You have created a museum piece and a work of art Pard!

Many thanks for sharing this with us

You need to learn to like all the little everday things like a sip of good whiskey, a soft bed, a glass of buttermilk,  and a feisty old gentleman like myself

RollingThunder

That's a very good looking hunk of leather you've got there, TW. I like the finish and fit of it. Very much an antique-looking piece in every right. Bravo!

10 Wolves, that's a work of art. I really like the spots, it adds immensely to the look.

I need a lot more practice with spots before I put any on an actual project, because mine tend to go this way and that, and I don't always cover the holes in back. I understand bunkhouse, but I don't want my looking like "Drunk bunkhouse"

Besides the spots, the aged look is excellent. Thanks for sharing.

TW, :o :o :o :o
That Is AWESOME it is picture perfect "Packing Iron" to it's best! The color is supurb, the spots and the concho layout are perfect in everyway!! If Herman Heiser, would of designed that holster, that would of been about the only holster you would of seen people wearing, if they could afforded it!! :)
And I am so humble, that you and I have became friends, and that you have helped me as my mentor, but there is one thing a mentor cannot do, is put the artistic design factor into his aprintist, that has to be consumed my watching his mentor, and then taking what he has learned to another level!!
I am so great full, for you sharing this with everyone!

Nice straps, RT. I like them both. Very nice with that frogahyde.

That's a fine holster, TW. You put a great finish on it. It looks like I'll have to try some of Chuck's techniques one of these days.

Real nice TENw,

Looks to be aged like ChuckB does.  The bottom photo on my computer shows some brown in with the black.  Would you tell us how you stained it?

Looks like it is an old original from the bygone days except not worn out.

Howdy All

I'd like to thank you all for taking the time to look at my holster, and I appreciate your comments , thanks for the kind words

Johny Dingus, the black you think you're seeing is really dark brown, the color is just Dark Roast Coffee, that I simmered for a few hours after bringing to a boil, I did this for two days, until the coffee was really dark and black, you have to let the coffee cool over night, you can highlight the colors by the use of oil, I'm going to post a picture of the holster after it was in the dye for 24 hours, and then dried for another 24 hours, this is the color you get, and after you apply oil you get these beautiful dark browns, you just have to shade them in where you want, I added blood stains by adding a few drops of Vinegaroon.

Again thanks everyone for taking a look  :D

Howdy Wily & Dalton

Thanks for you kind comments Pards, I guess I'm just lost in the old stuff Dalton, Wily doesn't know how we are when it comes to trying to go back to the past, When I can create a holster or belt the closer I get to making it look like it came from that time period the better it is for me, I can look at it and think wow this holster could have been there, and what story's could it tell, when I get this feeling about what I'm making , I feel I've gone as far as I can go. Thanks Gents for taking a look, it's appreciated. ;)

This is my second belt, and first basket stamp belt. I cut the blank from a side purchased from Tandy. The buckle is an old one, with sentimental value for my friend, Brian. He picked out the stamps, I would have used a little smaller border myself.

He wanted a burgandy hue under the black, so I dyed the whole thing with Fiebings Ox Blood, cut 3 to 1 with alcohol. I used Fiebing's USMC black on the back, and Tandy's Eco FLo Antique Gel black on the front. I doubt I'll buy that again. You have to use so much that IMO it's cost prohibitive. I wish I had used Mahogany instead of Ox Blood, there's always next time!

I need to apply a finish to it and punch the holes, then it's done. I would do a whole lot of things differently, and learned a lot from the project. I believe the second one will see improvement. I am writing down the things I think I did wrong, trying to create a paper trail for future projects.

Thanks for the opportunity to share! JD
