That's a good stamp design. Go for it.

Here's our thread for where to get one made: http://www.cascity.com/forumhall/index.php/topic,13978.0.html

Be sure to post it on the Maker's Stamp thread when you have it. http://www.cascity.com/forumhall/index.php/topic,18288.0.html

Nice looking design, but you don't "Qualify" as a newbie in my book. Not with the work you've posted!

Even if your not a professional and only give your stuff as gifts to family and friends, that's all I have ever done, they seem to really appreciate the makers stamp. So get a stamp.  I bought mine from Hide Crafters.

JD Alan

The truth is I haven't made anything! I'm practicing stamping and carving. I cut out several holsters, but this time of year is very busy for pastors, and I haven't had time to glue/sew them up, just to see if they actually fit my Vaqueros! I'm hoping after the first I will have a little time to try some things out! JD

Well show us the work in progress as it goes along. I for one would love to see it! Maybe even start a thread with a progression of how they come together?

Heck Dave, you're not tardy. You're fashionably late.

At least, that's what the War Department says it's called.

OK. So I'm not wanting to hog up the thread or anything, but here's the lastest I'm working on. The other one will have the basketweave going the opposite direction, and the matting on the right side has yet to be done, and the spots have yet to be added. The circle will have either the fronts of the Morgan dollar on it, instead of the backs or a leather concho with a bloodknot holding it on. This leather is really heavy 15 oz. skirting leather, and these are more of an experiment with the heavier leathers for me. I picked up two large similarly colored scraps at Tandy. Worked out pretty good. I like the scraps for that.

So that's my work in progress, now let's all tell our friendly parson pard that we want to see HIS work in progress! Hehehee.

Howdy RT,

That is a beautiful design! You sure do a great job of stamping!  As Dalton said.. Can't wait to see the finished piece.

By the way, this is a good idea to show work in it's various stages. I believe one can learn a lot by seeing how a job progresses from one step to another.

Looking good already, Rt. I like it. I think we're all going to enjoy seeing that progress. ;)

RT, you are a ringer for sure! Either that or you are a "Natural" via the Redford movie. I will find something to take a picture of and post it today. Can you tell me what method you are using to set your spots? So far mine aren't looking too hot. I have the Tandy 8114 setter, and the two prong device, but the legs keep sticking out. Thanks!

RollingThunder

I used to set my spots by slitting a hole with an X-acto knife, but then I stated to use a small single-hole punch. Takes a little practice to get the hang of the spacing from one prong to the other, but it works better than a spot setter kit from Tandy, and the little 1/4 inch spots are a breeze. Although you will still need the anvil to curl the prongs in and flatten them. I couldn't afford a spot setter press. I usually have my dished out part set up as well as a mini-anvil. I punch the wholes, put the spot in, tap the prongs curled in, and then flatten it on the anvil flat.

I also ordered that Maker's Mark from Phillips Engraving today. I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

And I can't wait to see your progress, there JD! Post away!

On my spots, I use a single slit punch to punch the holes for the legs, my 2 dividers to get the spacing correct, and then bend each prong over by hand using an old damaged nail set. Then I give it a final punch in the rear, to set both prongs down into the dome part of the leather. Works good, but takes time.

Those are great, 10W. The two-piece construction with the tip/hilt re-enforcments should last forever. Well done.

;D Thanks RT and Will, these Bowie's have a very thick tang, so I ran a welt on the top of the sheath and a small welt right at the guard on the bottom, it worked out well and these Bowie's slip in and out with no problem, glad you pards like them, they were fun to make. ;D

Outstanding! Those sheath's are a very well thought out design coupled with excellent workmanship. It's great to see you back in the saddle again. Many thanks for sharing this with us  ;)
