Grapeshot

Finally, I aced a match in Uniform.  At the Westshore Posse's Wild Bunch Match held this past Sunday, I shot clean using my M1911 and M1897 12 gage Pump Shotgun along with my M1873 Winchester SRC.

Listen!  Do you hear that?  The roar of Cannons and the screams of the dying.  Ahh!  Music to my ears.

Grapeshot,

If you go to the GAF website and click on awards it will have a form to complete and submit for awards.

As Old Top said. You just have to fill out the forms. The Marksmanship applications get forwarded to me. I then approve (or reject) it. and return it to the awards officer who tracks the awards issued.

Pitspitr,

As I understand the markmanship award is now a bar to be worn above the GAF Medal.  Have we determined the color guard award?  Is this also a bar and to be worn in the same manner?  I know there was some discussion on this but did not see the final outcome, any information would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks

Actually the Marksman award was always a bar that was worn above the membership medal. The change was that any award won for shooting is now part of the Marksmanship program instead of some of them being a Star of Merit.

That is something to be proud of.

Or was that a CLEAN UNIFORM?

Hope to be out to shoot with you fellers at Westshore again come spring, when I'm TDY at Ft Indiantown Gap.

Old Top,

Just to clarify - shooting activities previously awarded the Star of Merit now earn the Marksmanship bar as of 1 September 2008.  So if you shot a clean match in uniform prior to 1 September, you earned a Star of Merit.  If you shot a clean match after 1 September, like Grapeshot did in October, you earn the Marksmanship bar.

The Color Guard bar is now authorized and may be worn on the GAF medal by those who wish to wear it (some have expressed that serving on a color guard is honor enough).  I refer you to the Uniform policies posted on the GAF webpage for what can be worn on the GAF medal and/or on the uniform for GAF events.
