Ha ha ha ha ha ha ,  ;D
there you go Swordboy , you got the fist fight started now that you were wanting all along . Don't get them two going anymore or this may never end !  ;D
Although opinions are like you know what around here , so you got the show now but no go still , so you still got to go shoot some of them anyway . Hopefully your being entertained enough now though . Would hate to see you fall off your perch watching "YOUR" fight .
Get on the Cass or Sass wire and go to one of the shoots and find out what its all about and shoot some guns . But don't buy a  Colt , Remington , or ROA ( Ruger Old Army ) . You'll be cutting into my buying potential . Try Cap Guns instead , should be an easier desicion for ya .  :o  ;D

Alabama ,

over and out of here , off to work I go , to buy more guns !!!!! So I can try them and see if I like them ? Hmmm , seams like a good excuse to me  :o

;) I was kinda hopen for that  ;D ..... cause I'm really on the fence  :o

Hey, Swordboy.  Howdy!

I agree in principle with EVERYTHING said here, so far.  (How's that for sittin' on the fence like a Polly-tish-un?  ::) )

Let's review:  You have - or had - a Remington-style revolver.  OK.  You must've liked it OK since you seem willing to buy another.  Right?

Get a Colt.  Then you'll have both.  Nothin' wrong with having choices.  I love variety.  That's why my meager collection has both types - 1 Remington NMA that had to have surgery to remove about 1 1/2" of barrel because of a Pietta factory screw-up, and 3 Colt types.  In cartridge guns I have an 1873 Colt (clone by AWA) and an 1875 Remington (by Uberti).  I also have an old model Ruger Vaquero.

You can get down off the fence, now.  Make a stand!  If you buy a Colt, shoot both.  As one responder here said, your hands will tell you which to favor.

Nice one 'bama, you cain't buy 'em all though!
Not unless you can swim the pond to UK, it's a pain persuading shooters over here that C&B is good fun.
They don't like the smell, soot, smoke, noise and 'specially the cleaning. Still, as you say, leaves more for us!

Regards, pards, UKshooter (Who's got 2 ROA's, 2 Remmies and 1 humongous Walker Colt)

DDs right.  My hands say Colt clone and even more so 1860s. Piettas are good for me.

I shot on the same posse with Fingers and my 1860s got a spray of Ballistol on the outside to keep my sweaty fingerprints from rusting. No other maintenance required. TRESO nipples and #10 Remingtons and you're good to go.
And yes, he did beat me rather soundly.  :-\

Darn that last exchange of messeges was sure entertaining !  ;D
I have yet to smile and laugh that hard this year , but now I have , thanks  ;D

Short work day ( self employed , gotta love it ) so I better scan the gun adds before UKShooter gets more guns than I have . Your right UKShooter I can't have all of them , but I am going for a good percentage anyway in my lifetime . Odd how the Brittish shooters there don't like Cap and Ball , and for the reasons you listed ? But then again were talking about people whom prefer Tea and Crumpets over Beer and Peanuts ( Peanuts=Goobers ) for a snack , so I will never understand yall anyway  ;D Oh by the way I can swim pretty good  ;D When I run out off guns here I am on my way to the UK , back stroke , so watch out .  :o

Sincerely , Alabama  ;D

I'll be waiting on the beach, Alabama, with my pair of .36 '58's which I just had the cylinders reamed (makes a change from me being reamed by HM Govt.)
Come and get 'em, if'n you dare (I'll be using my ROA's as backup if the Remmies are too puny).

Peace and Love, UKshooter

Hi Steel Horse,

I bought a pair of .36cal, 1858 Remingtons which I couldn't make group for the life of me. Got out my trusty vernier calipers and found that the chambers were .005" smaller than the bore of the barrel. An engineer friend of mine bought the appropriate reamer, whacked it into a CNC machine and produced a perfect job on both cylinders. All I'm waiting for now is my local dealer to obtain a .380 ball mold for me and I can burn some Holy Black. ( Accurately, hopefully!)

Yours, UKshooter.

Proud owner of a nearly new reamer.

Hi UKShooter,
was going to ask you the same thing about the .36 till I actually thought about it, then Steel Horse Bailey asked you anyway . I kinda figured that was what you meant, but one never knows with you Britts  ;D Although for one second I thought you might be reaming them out and making a real conversion to .38 LC or Special  , which I am sure the Queen would not allow  :o I do relaize that your goverment only wants criminals and Bobbies to own guns , so I guess your limited . Good thing these cap and ball guns won't kill anything huh ? Don't tell her or they will  be gone too in short order .  :-\
Oh and I would never swim over to capture anyones owned guns anyway , but I am sure you fellas have some in the stores I will need , eventually when I run out here . I am still commin !
I actually can't give you guys too much grief anyway my Mom is Brittish and German so I am pretty much a mutt doggy anyway .
I take it none of your stores stock .380 balls ? Can't you order that from Hornady directly or Speer ????? You may like to melt lead yourself though , so I just thought of that aspect ?  I supposem as long as you gots that kinda time to dilly dally around after Tea Time to do that much work , it should work out well for ya . I am sure that brace of guns will work just fine now with the ream job though . Why wouldn't it  :D

Oh , and I think there was enough lead spewed on the beaches during WW2 by us Americans and you Britts , helping you guys take out Hitler anyway , a beach landing on the Uk would be a bad idea for anyone I am sure , especially if you get your Remingtons up and running soon  ;D . That being said I think the .36 would hurt just as much as the .44 anyway  ;D
As much as I love playing steel tipped Darts here at home , I "KNOW" how serious you guys are about that sport , I am quite sure your as accurate as anyone out there anyway UKShooter . I have little doubt you take Cowboy games any less serious than Tea Time , Darts , or playing around with Fine looking ladies !!! I will pass on the gunfight unless I can use my HK Cetme anyway ?   ;D

" Proud owner of a nearly new Reamer " ....( You say )....
Does this mean you guys got a new Parliment member now ??  ;D ;D :o :o :o
I hope your stocking up on BP and lead anyway .  ??? :-\

Sincerely , Alabama the Mutt Redneck

That Mr. fingers McGee trying to tell me my ROA's would jam up.
Ooooh that makes me mad! (Yosemite Sam)
JFYI I shot a 7 stage match on the Saturday, full warthog loads, only wiped the crud from the outside, went to the range next morning and shot  a further 20 shots through each using only 20 gr holy black with wads, (told I needed to do this for an indoor match) just to see how they performed and they were flawless.

Now UK, If you read my post thoroughly, I said I wasn't 100% sure about the ROAs and Remmies; but that the Remmies I had would lock up.  There are some people that can't make a Colt clone run more than two or three stages without some relubing and cleaning to keep them from binding.

Hornady and Speer don't make .380 balls.  It's .375 or cast your own.

Alabama

Now I know . Thanks for clerifying me right up on that one Pettifogger .

I wish they did make .380 balls.  I have a couple of Ubertis that would probably work better with .380s.  I like Hornady because they have a coating on them that seems to help loading.  There is only one pard I know that I would buy homecast balls from and he is currently no longer casting.  I will only use PURE lead balls.  A lot of home casters say that are using pure lead but aren't.  With the bore/cylinder throat discrepancy on most of the Italian repros I want soft lead to bump up in the bore and hard ones can be a royal pain to load.  I have seen several bent loading levers from pards who didn't know better and tried to force a hard ball into their cylinders.

Fingers McGee

FWIW  I've had really good luck with .380 balls from bpstuffllc http://www.bpstuffllc.com/index.htm and Log Cabin Sport Shop http://www.logcabinonline.com/  Ordering 1000 or more from bpstuff makes the flat rate shipping reasonable.  .380s are all I use in all my .36 C&Bs.

Not a bad price considering the price increases on Speer and Hornday the past year.  Are they pure lead?  The ad doesn't say.

Fingers McGee

Yes, I asked them when I first ordered.  Quick turn around too.  bpstuff's have no sprue stub, just a flat spot where the sprue was.  Log Cabin Shop's have a very small nub where the sprue was cut off.  Both work very well in front of 20 gr fffg and a lubed wad.  Have had nary a miss all season using them.  My Uberti 1861s cut a nice ring using them.  My 2nd Gen 1861s have chamfered chamber mouths & don't cut a ring.  Lever stuffs it all in.
