Howdy to all. JD Alan here. That's my SASS Alais. I've been pouring over this Forum the last couple of weeks, so now I feel like I know a whole bunch of you!

I posted a leather finishing question on the SASS Wire Forum, and Cutter Carl suggested this Forum, and boy am I glad he did.

I am a pastor in Oregon, and one of the gals at church offered to make me a leather bible cover. Her husband is a SASS shootin buddy of mine. She did an incredible job, and the bug to do it myself bit me big time.

I've taken a few classes at my local Tandy leather store, and bought enough tools to get myself in trouble. My goal is to make holsters and other equipment for members of the Orygun Cowboys.

I haven't made a holster yet, just a lot of practice with various stamps, the swivel knife, and some carving.

So thanks for all the great posts I've read so far, and I'm really looking forward to learning from everyone here.

Howdy JD,

Welcome to CAS City and the Leather Shop.

You may want to consider purchasing a book called "How to make Holsters" by Al Stohlman and a DVD by Chuck Burrows called "Frontier Holsters".

The very best of luck to you.

Howdy JD,

I just took a look at your "Sherwood New Life" website. By any chance do you drive a Harley? Some times there are some pretty nifty leather motorcycle accessories posted here on the Leather Shop.

Welcome JD

Just jump on in the water isn't as cold as the weather would let you believe.

Holsters are easy if you look at the right books and pictures.  Getting the color right is the hard part unless your Chuck or Will.

Have fun with your projects and post up pictures....we all learn from each other here....well some of us do. ;D

Well, Howdy back to everyone, and thanks for the warm greetings. Cutter Carl was the first one to let me know about this website, but Dalton also gave me an invite, which I do appreciate. I've done some talkin with Red Sky and Kid Cavailer from the SASS forum.

I read all 158 pages of the "Show us yer stuff" thread, and a whole bunch of other threads, which were interesting and informative. You guys really do some nice work.

Johnny, I bought the How to make Holsters book a few months back, and as I continue to work with leather things make more sense. I wasn't aware of the DVD, but I will check it out

I do ride a Harley, currently a Street Glide. I've also had a Heritage and a Road King. I've been riding since 1967, when I turned 18, and was able to buy a bike without my mom's permission! She never did get use to me riding, but eventually stopped complaining about it. My wife & I road to Sturgis in 2004, 2005, and had a great time.

I've been at this church in Sherwood 20 years now. Sherwood is about 15 miles southwest of Portland. I've been married 31 years, and have two kids and two grandkids.

I look forward to gettin to know more of you here, and thanks again for the welcome, I do appreciate it!

JD
