Seems to me that a while back, some 'smithing outfit was color case hardening TTN double shotgun receivers.  Anyone remember who that might be?   ???

Yes Sir ..Walt Johnson was sending them out from TTn.
I think it was $150 up charge over the base price.

Nate Kiowa Jones @ Stevezgunz in Texas is also applying CCH to TTN doubles.  Nice work too.

Mossyrock,
I actually have one of those  CCH '78s.  Walt did a short run of them which I became of aware of when I saw a picture in Taylor's catalog.  Taylor's initially was going to sell them dressed up a bit to differentiate them from the guns being sold by EMF, Taylor's never sold them but it intrigued Walt and he had a few sent out.  He picked the nicer wood and fits as well for those guns.  I don't believe he's had any done since those initial few.

With Walt's help I finally tracked one down after 2 years.  I would recommend just contacting him and asking where he had it done.

This is what they look like.  I've had mine for just a few months now, I've since radiused and lowered the decorative "spurs" on top of the hammers, honed the chambers and bore and removed the burrs on the extrator.  Trigger pull was fine, I really didn't do much.  I was told he had some "lighter" hammer springs put in some, mine seem nice.  They are a bit lighter than the original TTN '78 I got a couple of years ago.

I hope you either find one, or get one case colored because it is a lot "purtier" than my first one with the mud plain super dark stock and unremarkable black oxide finish.

Regards,
Mako

P.S. I'll vouch for Nate as well, he's putting another bead on a '66 carbine band for me even as I write this.  Honest and easy to work with. I called him last Friday to make sure he was back in his shop, they had to camp out in an RV for a few nights there in Port A.

Nate built a John Wayne loop-lever 92 for me a few years ago that turned out very well.  I might have to drop him a line to see what I am getting into with this TTN.  I just wish they offered this shotgun with longer barrels and in the original 10 gauge!    :-\ :'(
