I use the Magtec brass 12 gauge shells for all my Black powder SG shells, I do not use plastic anymore. I have 150 shells.

I prep all my new cases before I start to reload them, and part of the process is a slight roll crimp. My first step is to make all the primer pockets uniform. Magtec does a poor QC on the product. Besides the pockets being tight the flash holes are sometimes very tight. I ream all the flash holes to spec. with a Lyman tool. Then comes the slight roll on the case mouth.

I use the old Lee loader for this stage of the case prep. Because the cases can be varied in over-all length I do this manually with a plastic mallet, the lee loader chucked up in vise. I adjust each case mouth roll so my 3/4" dowel will enter the case mouth with out resistance. I use the dowel to seat my wads. Once the roll is applied it will last for many, many reloadings. The cases have been shot and reloaded for over a year and still have a good mouth roll. My 3/4" dowel is my test for size on each loading of the wads.
I just completed my Winter Range reloading of the shells. This week-end I shoot the 12 stage Fire & Ice match at Cowtown. Next week is Winter Range and 12 more stages.

Four Fingers, if you send me your mailing address I'll send you some 11 gauge overpowder wads and some ten gauge overshot wads. Like 25 of each, just to get you a look at what you are trying to do. I think that will mail for 41 cents.

I am sorry, U seem to have missed your post with your kind offer. I live in Australia. I think I sourced some of the 11Ga wads some time ago. They ar eburied in the garage I think, this project went on the back boiler for awhile, but may re-surface again.

I have always wanted a 16Ga shotgun and just picked up a Felix Sasparilla (sarasqueda or whatever it is called, I think it was a Felix, the middle quality one), virtually new for $200. I will pick it up next week and am buying some 16Ga Magtec brass hulls for it. I'm a sucker for punishment.
Thanks for your kind offer, Mick.

I have a box of the converted cases but use the regular set-up with the Large Pistol primers.  It is easier!

The 209 conversion leaves much of the primer sticking up into the powder area - UN SUPPORTED.  The "Double Gun Shop" converted cases use a nylon ring to attempt to correct this, but it seems to me to be an ingenious solution to a non-existent problem.  Use the MAGTECHs as they are and you will be happy.  There is plenty of advice on how to load them with home made tools.

I am in the process of loading smokless 16's (brass hulls) today. Tomorrow will be 12 ga. BP loading.

BTW; Unique is a very good Smokless powder for 16 ga. Brass shells.

I use this without a crimp just glue in the last wad (cardboard). http://www.ebay.com/itm/LEE-12-GAUGE-RELOADING-KIT-NEW-IN-BOX-/190653257028?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c63d1d544 I load with pyrodex or black powder. They work fine with the proper wads.

If you are using card & fibre wads you will have to go with 14 gauge wadding, especially the final overshot card.

At first I used 14 ga. OPC. I get a better seal with a 13 ga. OPC now. I use a 14 ga. fiber wad and a 13 ga. OSC.

I have been using Brass shells for the past four years now and will most likely never use plastic hull again.

For 16 ga. I use 7/8 oz of shot, for the 12 it gets 1 oz.. I tried 7/8 oz in the 12, but much better results and pattern with 1 oz. in the brass shells with BP.

Wills Point Pete, I found the 11Ga over shot card/wads, they were hiding in plain sight in a tool tray just beside my desk in my 'office' (a converted bedroom which has so much junk in it, I can't use it at the moment). I can't remember if I bought the cushion wads or overshot cards.

I'm sorry to say Sir Charles, but I still haven't got my act together with these.

I was hoping to use brass shotshells in the 16Ga with black powder (the plastic cases are wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too expensive here to ruin with black powder loads unfortunately.

I also have scrounged hundreds of Federal target cases for BP loading. So many projects so little time. How did I get anything done when I had to go to work?
