What's the differance between a Uberti and Chapparrel in 45-75?  Can I use the same Lee dies on both and can I use the same reformed brass?

Thanks, Will

Will,

This has been discussed around the fire before.

I have not seen any evidence  in regards to significant differences.  Until someone does a chamber case of both and demonstrates that there are significant differences - differences that would make the interchange of brass problematic, I  don't believe it is an issue.  I know folks that are shooting both - with the same brass.

Thanks Grizzly, that's what I was hoping for.  I don't see why there would be a big differance if there both suposed to shoot 45-75 WCF.

I looked over the 45-75 cartridge post and I didn't see some information I got from the folks at Uberti.  In a conversation with the Uberti brand manager at the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation Show in Reno, he told me that there was a problem with the chambers on the first 45-75 Ubertis brought int the US.  According to him, the chambers were not cut to SAMI spec (I think over size) and Uberti would not sell them under their owm name but Cimarron and Taylors did.  This discussion is given some support by the fact that the Uberti brand 45-75s (those imported by Stoeger) were unavailable long after the Cimarrons and Taylors 45-75s, and all the other Uberti calibers, were on the market.  I got my 45-75 as part of the employee purchase program (read killer deal, thank you very much!) with the consent of the Uberti brand manager as it was a first year of production (which they don't normally do) but I had to wait quite a while for it.  I have not measured the chamber or the fired case yet but they are supposed to be to SAMI spec.  We shall see.  Just some information to stir into the mix.

Hi, Roscoe. :)

Well, it is hard for me to believe that Tammy or Mike would knowingly put anything on the market, with their name on it, if there was a problem - and Uberti makes them all.  I know for a fact, that Tayors was offered the Chaparral version, and refused it due to QC concerns.

Furthermore, if a buyer did in fact receive a rifle with a non-SAMI spec chamber, that would certainly be a warranty issue, and Taylors or Cimarron would be obligated to replace the barrel.

In any case, the information is appreciated - and time will tell as you say. :)

I have posted this on another thread, but seems appropriate to add it here as well:

I have looked further into this situation, and according to CH4D Die and Tool, there IS difference between the chamber on the Uberti and the Wnchester.  I am awaiting further information in regards to the specifics. :-\  In brief, the CH4D dies for the original 45-75 are based on the 1910 factory drawings.  The Uberti chamber is apparently based on a "CIP" spec.  Not sure what that is exactly, but it seems to be European ???.

This falls under the FWIW catagory, and is based solely on what CH4D tells me.   I am still digging for more information/varification.  I will post more when I know more.

In any case, if anyone is having trouble with factory rounds or reloads chambering in their Uberti, then CH4D has the Uberti spec dies. If you go to the CH4D web site, you will see that two versions are being offered.   Another solution would be to neck size when reloading.  This may also apply to the Chaparral version.

In addition, according to CH4D, this variation also extends to the 50-95, although I have not heard of any problems from any of our members as of this date.

When I bought the expander dies from ch last month - we talked about this also. So far I am not seeing a lot of difference from the fire formed rounds and the case after it is full resized. however a fired round does chamber easier than a full resized case. As of now I am not resizing the cases at all, just flaring the mouth alittle and reloading, they cycle throught the action fine and chamber smoothly. I think that when i get some extra cash this winter I may get the dies from ch. but they are pricey and I could just get more 348 brass ???
