Left after work Saturday, wen to the Hollenburg Pony Express Station just south of me in Kansas for their anual feastable.  Camped out in my bed roll by the fire.

As planned the day started at sunup, I took this picture after I got up and got dressed:

The jug will be hidden later, but setting up Oscar's new dining fly:

Wibur coming back with water for his tea and the original building: (One of my trainee's)

Our coffee was already on, note the neat coffee pouring lever on the pot that Greg (nuther trainee) bought, a copy of an original one:

Oscar's new portable cupboard, made out of an antique dynamite box, says high exposives on it:

The blacksmith gettin' the forge fired up:

Oscar borrowed ropes for Sunday, and then our friend Lz and his daughter went to work to make his ropes:

Much better than store bought.

I put my bedroll quilts up to be another display:

With 4 cooks I got to wander around more than usual, so once we got the meat going I wandered around, guy was knapping and had some really nice obsidian knives.

Wandered down and watch a guy plow for a bit:

Also caught a guy givin' a lady a ride in his buggy, stage is the one I rode in June, but Kenny was not their with his mules to give rides:

Wandered over to where the cooper was makin' barrels and buckets:

Watched his Dad make brooms:

Checked out the Wheelwright:

Was a guy workin' deer hides:

Wandered back to camp to check on things and check on my bread dough, Emil thinks he's cool with his band, we had Zerf the cowboy singer, much better: ;)

(Yes he knows all the old songs)

He's so good even big ugly bugs like him:

Oscar and Wibur explainin' things to visitors:

(Note their nice new aprons) ;)

Wandered off agin when I got done kneading the bread, really neat disc sharpenin' system from WWI era, belt driven of a "Hit and Miss" engine of the same vintage:

Wandered back and caught Dave a heatin' and beatin':

Three ovens goin' big one is out new 20 inch 27 quart, smaller one is a 12 inch 8 quart and the other is a 14 inch 11 quart:

A young lady (Oscar's daughter) on her first attempt at dutch oven cookin:

A picture to blackmail a friend with, the tourists had left already and he called home to tell the kids to tend the horses 'cause he was stayin' for supper:

Our flag blowin' in the Kansas breeze, we're a bit behind, it's 36 star one, we should really have a 38, one of my winter projects:

Smithfield ham:

Shredded pork loin, and other stuff for fajitas, tourist's were gone so we cheated and used store bought tortillas, besides that we ate and ran:

Herbed taters:

Wilbur's beef with his secret sauce:

(Wonn't stay a secret to long, didn't have time to write it down)

About a 1/4th of the bread I baked, that Kansas breeze made a couple hot spots on my oven:

There were 2 dessert's a peach cobbler and some cake, some how didn't get picture's, I know Oscar did though.

It looks like a fabulous event, Delmonico. Thanks for sharing pics.
It's encouraging that so many people make the effort to keep the olden' skills alive. Not only that, but still travel and get together to share their knowledge in these stretched economic times. I bet no one came away rich from an event like that, so it had to be purely a case of 'cause it matters to 'em.

Looking forward to eating some of your grub next month at Fort Hartsuff.

Kid, bein' on a hill in a "gentle kasas wind can mak it like tryin' to cook on the blacksmith's forge when he's a runnin' the bellows. ;D

Used to bother me that it wasn't perfect, but found out some folks seek out the really dark crust. :)

Dr. Bob, I just made another 18 aprons cause I gave some away and burnt up a couple or just wore them out.  They were brand new that day, I even wore a new one. ;D  BTW I gave Wilbur and his wife matchin' ones. ;)

RCJ, as you know I love doin' it as well as everyone else there.  Always thought it was funny so many folks complain about how the public as a whole don't really understand how things were but don't do anything to help the learnin' process.  Kinda like not votin' and complain' about the President. :)

Del, I always love looking at pictures of events.  Thanks for sharing!

A question:  You say this device is a copy of an original.  How far back does it date?  I could use one of those devices. ;D

Don't rush to answer. ;D  I found someone who has dated a similar device (but for tea pots) back to colonial times.

Dang it, pard, I forgot, was gonna call my blacksmith because he said it dated back beyond this period and was gonna get a better idea.

If you need one let me know, Dave didn't make this one, but has made them, it must be a rolled edge bottom though.
