I looked at the Clansman site the other day. My great grandmother was a MacDonald. So, I was looking for the MacDonald tartan. There are a bunch of MacDonald tartans. They are listed by location. I don't know what location my ancestors were from.

She used to have a plaque on her wall with the crest and a swatch of the tartan. But, I can't remember the exact coloring. I think it was a red background with green and yellow stripes. It might be this one.

You mean red hair is Scotish.  The kilt should cover most of my knees.

Will dearly wants a kilt. I am putting him off until he finishes growing, but I may get him a Utilikilt this year. He has good coloring for it, too, the coppertop.

I can lay claim to kinship with the Taylors (BlackTaylor of the Battle-axe), Cameron of Lochiel, and Stuarts on one branch of the famiily tree; Clan MacNeil of Barras on another; and the Irish Kavanaugh (Cavannaugh) on yet  another.

Tartans a-many I have to choose from, but I prefer the plain ould Taylor tartan, though I have worn Stuart hunting green on occassion, and becasue of my  ancestor's service to the Macgregorrs, the use of their's, as well.

My sister's son married a Scottish lass, and wore MacNeil tartan kilts and plaid for the wedding.

My wife's mother's maiden name is Argyle and her father was a Purcell (and she has red hair).

I really prefer jeans and tee shirts for everyday wear.

Paternal Grandpop lived on a farm in Minnesota when he was a kid. His parents came from Germany but had some Irish slip in there. Paternal Grandmother's parents also came from Germany where they'd lived for generations.

Mom's Grandmother was 1/2 Blackfoot or Algonquin, but she never told and they didn't know for certain until after she was dead. Her dad was French/Canadian/Irish (in more Southern parts of the country he'd be called Cajun). Mom's Dad was known as the "Duke's Mixture" of Irish, Scotch, and Welsh, but no English, and a hodgepodge of other stuff including French.

Me? I'm ALL American.
