Thanks fer the coffee, Cuz.
It seems like all our fruit trees survived, but the deer nibbled on some of the branches.

I love the smell of Black Powder in the morning!

Scattered Thumbs, do you know how to grow pomegranates? I have a bush but it isn't doing anything.

Morning, Slim! No deer in there yet, but I'll have to treat the area very soon now that I have leaves.

I have no ideia.  :-[  When I was a kid my uncle had them in his farm, but the only thing I knew about them was how to eat them  ::)

The trees I have in my backyard pretty much grow by themselves. But there are no pommegranates in the lot. (2 orange trees, 1 tangerine tree, 1 lemmon tree, 1 apple tree, and 1 prune tree)

Afterthought. Weather where I stand is similar to Southern California. Where I understand pommegranates are grown. Is the weather in Virginia anywhere near that?

Joyce (AnnieLee)

Completely off topic, the Vatican has announced that Pope Benedict XVI is the new Pope. He was formerly known as Cardinal Ratzinger from Germany. Is this a surprise?

Prunes are generally a smaller plum with less water than the big tasteless ones that are hybrid.  The good ones often come in about late Sept or early OCT around here and are often called Italian Prune Plums.

Yes that is what they make dried prunes out of.

An English Plum Pudding used dried prunes, not fresh plubm, not easy to get at the time of Dickens , or rather fresh prunes at Christmas time. ;D

Criminy, there you go, lecturing and saying the same thing I said! The plum trees used to make prunes are called prune trees. It's the same word in other languages.

Morning, Scattered Thumbs!

I tried to watch the events over the web on MSNBC, so of course the streaming audio and video wasn't working when they made the announcement.

One thing that struck me in a negative way: One of the broadcasters referred to John Paul II as "JayPee two"

ARGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

Morning, Annie Lee!

Could be worse, he could have called him JEEP II  ;D

Word of caution. Though I'm from a Catholic country, I'm not a Catholic myself. I could be described as Christian.  ::) At least I try to act like one. ;D

Howdy again!

Is it too soon to make an incredibly non-politically correct comment/joke about the new Pope?

It's more on the scale of "one of those random thoughts."

When it was announced that Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger was Pope Benedict XVI, the thought ocurred to me:

Cardinal Ratzinger's family opposed the Nazis and paid for it, but he accomplished that which Hitler dreamed of doing: A German is now the most powerful man in the world.
