Since this is supposed to be coffee and grub, I am < gasp  :o > posting on-topic with a grub question.

I want to make some salsa. Why do salsa recipes call for olive oil? Vinegar I could maybe understand, but not olive oil. Why is it in there?

Perplexed,

I've never made home-made salsa, Annie, but I have had some made by a girl at work a few years ago. MUCH better than the stuff in jars. Since it's a Spanish inspired dish, the olive oil fits. That fresh Salsa was really yummy............Buck 8) ::) ;)
I might be slow, but I'm mostly accurate.....

Joyce (AnnieLee)

If there was any oil in it, it'd have to be olive oil, I agree, Buck. But why any oil at all?

???

Where's Del when you need him? Maybe you shouldn't have hit him so hard with that skillet...........Buck 8) ::) :o ;)

Joyce (AnnieLee)

Yeah, where IS Del?

I made a batch of it. I got the consistency about right, but it isn't red, it's almost gray-red, and the taste is watery. Dadgum it! :'(

Too much Cilantro?

I dated a girl once that said that could not stand the taste of cilantro.  She said that it gave everything the taste of dirty dishwater.  I've seen greyish-red salsas before.  Remember, the salsas out of the jars probably have red # 40 in them... along with red # 3, red #7, red #12, red #3, red #45, red #68, red #83, red #124, red #632, red #905, red #1,673 & yellow #5.

Good points, Trinity!

I don't think it has too much cilantro as the taste isn't overwhelming. Maybe the salsa companies just use the outer portion of the tomatoe? The inner pulp or what ever it is called is a much lighter color.

Delmonico

Delmonico comes in just a rantin' and a ravin' where in the (you know what) is the post from a half hour ago, It said it posted, where in the (you know what) is it????????????

Ok try again.  Saute the onions, the garlic and the chili peppers in the oil, that most likely is the problem, don't make no differance if the chili's are fresh or dry.  Never allow it to burn, the combination of burnt, chili, onions and garlic is (you know what).  When using fresh peppers be carful, wear rubber gloves if you want, even with the gloves, never touch any body openings on youself or others with out washing your hands with soap and water several times. :o :o :o

Use paparika to color it, the cheap spanish is ok for this cause the chili will cover the delicate flavor of the paparika anyway.

Now if this post gets lost I'm really mad, if anyone finds the other one, go ahead and delete it. ::)

I see it now, Del, thanks!

I may add some more onions and chili to this batch to see if I can make the flavor stronger. I was using an "uncooked" recipe with no oil.

You folks that can visit Cas City at work are lucky.  My boss is scared that we would all waste our entire day playing or looking at porn, so no internet at all.

Ok, but remember this is just a rumor.

Our dear sweet friend Slim was out gatherin' Easter Eggs yesterday with those seet girls of his, well when they were done he could not refuse when one peeled him and egg and so he ate it, well I want to peel one for Daddy and the chain reaction started, soon it reached critical mass and before he knew it he had ate more egges than "Cool Hand Luke." ;D ;D

Well on the way to work this morning in the dark country side of Wissyconsion, Slim was driving to work in his Ford truck and since it is Wissyconsion it was cold in the morning and his window was rolled up.  Like a lot of old Ford trucks do from time to time the lights blinked, and a small arc occured in the headlight circuit breaker, not a porblem normally, but the build up of methane gas and sufurous gases was at the critical stage and there was a bright blue flash.   Film at 11.

So... are you saying that Slim had the winds and that caused his truck to blow up on the highway?
