New crossdraw
« on: August 04, 2008, 07:30:28 AM »
I just recieved my custom ordered "Slim Jim" from Allan at Chisholm's Trail. Allan was very helpful in helping me come up with the holster that I wanted. He's done work for several movies including "Tombstone" and "3:10 To Yuma", but looking through his online catalog was enough to convince me to give him a try. After I recieved it I gave the insides a liberal coating of "Leather Lightning" and my 2nd.Gen Navy Colt pulls smooth as butter. I've used a lot of different holster makers over the years, but I have to say Allan's the man. I've deleted all my former contacts from my favorites. :)

Leather lightning is a Mitch Rosen product. It doesn't harm your leather or your gun. It's made to break a new holster in quickly. Some custom made holsters are a little tight when you first get them and take a little breaking in. You coat the inside of your holster, let it dry for about five minutes and you're ready to go. I use it on all new holsters.

Thanks for the info.  Just bought my first new holster and it's "snug."  I'll check it out.

Piebiter, that new holster is as good an example of craftsmanship as I have seen in a long time. I've just completed mine for my '47 Walker (in alligator pressed mustard tan) and I now feel like taking it to pieces after seeing yours. (Sob,sob.)
