Our duty roster has changed.  And I now have that weekend FREE!  So we are planning on going to LAS for the SASS convention.
I am volunteering myself & my Win M-1895, if they want us.

MG

In that case, I'll put you in charge.  I will be TDY in the Gulf.  The mission is open-ended, meaning I know when I'm going, but not when I'm coming back, so I don't plan to attend the Convention this year.

Last I heard one of the Wild Bunch was going to coordinate the Convention.  I'll send Tex a message (since he is a GAF member) to remind the WB that the GAF is available.

My air and hotel reservations were made two months ago!  :-)  So, I am available again.

Do we need any flags?

:-)

Mustang Gregg

Sounds, good, Sir!

I will do my best with the Color Guard detail.  We have been pondering doing a nice drive out to LAS.
But the WX is probably going to make up fly instead.   >:(  We may get snow later this week, by the current forecast.

We will be looking for cheap airline tickets tonight.

Who is the POC for the banquet?

As I stated early in this post and on the SASS wire, you can count on my for this detail.  I've got a new 1876 Cavalry Officers Uniform for the 1876 Theme of the Convention.  (No Confederate This Year)

I will shootin in the Southwest Regional in 9 days, The Judge and Tex are both supposed to be there.  I will make it a point to personally discuss this with them as a backup to your contacting someone also.

Since SASS has not approached the GAF to provide a color guard at this year' s SASS Convention, I sent an offer to Tex, one of our members to forward to whoever is in charge of the event.  He has sent it to Coyote Cal..

Mustang Gregg has the lead for the Color Guard this year as I'm unable to attend due to my overseas travels (beginning today).

GAF Color Guard at the SASS Convention is approved

Mustang Gregg
I am pleased to report that my mission to discuss the flag detail with The Judge and Tex at the Southwest Regional was accomplished this last Saturday.  I spoke with both of them and Cat Ballou about doing the ceremony again as last year.  They were all very much in favor and instructed me to contact Coyote Calhoun who is in charge of the Convention and let him know they were in favor and verify he had not made other arrangements.  SO this morning is sent CC the following e-mail:

I spoke with The Judge and Tex this weekend at the SW Regional Championship about the flag ceremony for the Banquet at the  SASS Convention.  The Grand Army of the Frontier (GAF) is very interested in doing the flag ceremony in period military uniforms as was done last year.  Both The Judge and Tex stated they were VERY MUCH in favor of that happening and asked me to contact you to see if that could be arranged and to verify you had not already made other commitments for that ceremony.  There are members of GAF (including me) willing to accomplish this and just need some official word to set it up.  Please let me know and I will pass it along to the individual who has been placed in command of this proposed flag detail should we be presented with the opportunity.

This evening when I got in from work I had this reply from Coyote Calhoun:

YES YES We do want you to do this.
Please get it set up and and keep me informed.

thanks

OK Mustang Greg, it's all yours to coordinate.  Please let us all know what you want done.  I believe that Mud Marine and I have already said we would participate.  All other GAF members planning to attend the SASS Convention let MG know of your willingness to enlist in this opportunity.

Captain Barrett

Cowtown,

Perhaps you can generate some interest in the GAF by suggesting an Honor Cordon being formed of those folks in military attire. The Honor Cordon will be just two columns of folks who form an "aisle" down which the Honor Guard will march. Each person in the Honor Cordon will merely stand at Attention and salute the National Ensign as it passes when it is brought into the ballroom and upon its exit. It may be an interesting thing for folks to see...

Cowtown Scout - WELL DONE!

Mustang Gregg - Please keep me apprised of your plans for the color guard.  Capt Barrett has made a good suggestion, and this might be a good way to gain a few new enlistments among those who like to wear a uniform but have yet to hear of us.

Our mission over here in the sandbox is encountering one delay after another and I've no idea when I'll be returning.  I had hoped to get back before Thanksgiving but that is not looking very likely at the moment.  As I feared, I may be here up through the Convention.

I have already sent you a PM om this, Sir.
We will NOT be at the SASS Convention.
I have been tasked to run a TDY detail for AMCOM that week.
So I WILL NOT make it to Las Vegas at all.

I have left messages to this effect to Coyote Calhoun, but have not gotten a reply.

I understand that MM & DT are going though.

Which of you gentlemen are confident that you can coordinate the color guard this year?

You'll need to coordinate with Coyote Cal before the convention to arrange the flags since GAF does not have its own set of colors.

You'll also need to coordinate with him at the Convention to make any final arrangements, and with the others to hold a practice session.  Those of you who were on last year's color guard know what I mean.    We don't have to look like we're active duty military, but we do need to look good for the event.  Remember the impact we had last year.

Also, you should think of appropriate music to walk in with.

If you have questions, check with me.

I would be pleased to help. What flags do we need? I own USA colours and a USMC flag with poles, appropriate fiinials, carriers, etc. I can certainly bring them to the convention. Where do we obtain a GAF flag? Since my companion of choice cannot attend, I will have plenty of free time. :-)  We could practice every day after the TG meeting.

I would like to work with other GAF members on the colour guard. Dusty Tagalog had some good suggestions for last year's event.
:-)

Mud Marine:

Good on you, Sir!  Thanks for volunteering!
I know that you troopers, soldiers, Marines & sailors will do fine.

Can you please email as to the reason this posting was reported.  I can only read it on my phone and can not determine the nature of the offense.

What is "reported"?  The message and the thread are simple GAF business regarding the organization of the SASS Convention Colour Guard.

Colour me perplexed!
:-)

Major Matt Lewis

Well,

I just ran out of purplexed, but I got an email earlier today from you because I am the moderator on this board indicating that you were reporting this thread.  I still have the email, so I am not crazy, but I am thinking you hit the wrong button or something.

I'll be there again this year for the T/G Summit.  Last year I was the "Lone Swabbie", in the color guard in 1898 dress whites. I can also do 1880 7th Cavalry full dress.  Let me know.  Sweetwater Jack GAF #13
