Dirty Brass

Took me 59 years to get here, but I'm finally doing it :)

Nothing great - I've seen some beautiful rifles and pistols here, but I'm pretty happy with these and wanted to show someone.....the start of my collection.........

Pettifogger

Looks like you have a heck of a start!!! ;D ;D ;D

Brassmagnet,   Very nice guns there.  You are getting off to a great start.  I hope you know there is no turning back now!!  You have every right to be proud of those babies.  Regards,  Deadeye.

Thanks guys - like I said, nothing great, but I'm glad to finally have them. I have another 76' with 28" BBL not pictured, and couple more BP pistols. I'm thinking about a conversion kit for one of them to shoot cartridges. I think those are neat too. Heck - they're all neat! :D

Brassmagnet,
Great start on your collection!  You have good taste.  One of my simple pleasures in life is to pursue any and all reference materials, magazine articles, etc., etc., on any gun I acquire.  It adds so much to the collecting of guns knowing their history, the men (and women) who used them, and how they changed the course of history.  I also enjoy learning about the leather that held them and any accessories.  Following my method, you'll be very busy for at least another 59 years!  Good Luck!

Thanks. That is a pretty one. I'll probably never put a round ball through that one - I have another unplated one I may shoot, but it's in a presentation case too, so I've been holding off. I've had plenty of fun with the Walker and the 1851 though. The 1860 is pretty ragged and loose, so I shy away from it.

Regarding your statement I highlighted:  Any special reason why you don't want to shoot it?  I have a Colt 2nd Gen., 1st Model Dragoon myself and have been asked why I shoot it.  It's simple: it was born to shoot.  I let rich guys have the un-shootable "collectors" but for me, I load 'em up and let fly.  Besides ... it's WAY more fun!

I only have one gun I don't shoot.  It's a (relatively) rare Japanese Type I rifle in 6.5 Jap caliber.  http://members.shaw.ca/nambuworld/typeipix.htm
IF I had dies (Lee makes 'em) but more importantly, IF I could afford the ammo components, I'd shoot the darn thing!

It might be just me, but I don't care much for 44 cal. paperweights!  ;)

;D

Enjoy your collection, 'tho - it's ALL good and fun!

Yer' right, and maybe someday I will fire it, but for now I have enough to keep me busy shooting. I just figure let the pretty one sit in the case until I need it. My other dragoon will get fed this year I'm sure :)

I'm pretty hooked on the cartridge lever guns right now. These are just too much fun to put down! :D
