Schofield Front sight adjustment

Ok first off I know you can't adjust the front sight. Here is the dilemma, the Schofield shoots about 6 inches high. the front sight looks like it had been filed ever so slightly. It looks like there is a pin holding it in.
Is it replaceable?
Oh yeah it is a Navy Arms in 44-40.

There are two notches in the rear sight, a large one and a smaller one at the bottom of the large one, which one are you using?  The lower notch will shoot lower....  You can also make your own front sight.

It's not uncommon to encounter original revolvers of this (pinned sight breaktops) type with front sights made from appropriate sized period coins.

I would guess a pattern for a coin sight could readily be determined by removing the factory one and using it as a guide.

How do you take the sight out?  There seems to be a pin holding it in.  Do you tap it out somehow?  I have some of the same problems with mine.

Yep, the sight blade is pinned in. The pin must be carefully tapped out with an appropriate sized pin punch. These are usually just pinned in and not also soldered etc. But there's no way to know for sure on your particular revolver.

A couple of other caveats:

1) The pin may deform in the process and a new one MAY be needed to reinstall the new blade;
2) Be very careful not to mar the barrel finish -- the pins are often very difficult to see; and
3) Chances are good that the new pin will never look as smooth as the factory job, as it certainly appears that the pin is installed at the factory and then the entire revolver finished and polished.
