Has anyone snipped a coil or 2 off of a vaquero mainspring.
if so did you have any problems?

Why not just buy a good spring kit, they include a trigger retun spring.  The trigger spring being  lighter will do you more good than the mainspring being lighter.

I agree.... Buy the kit.  It's inexpensive, proven and no hassle.   They work first time with no extra disassembly or guessing.

Did I say "GET THE KIT" ??  ;D

I've cut coils and I've installed kits. By far the kit is the way to go if you want reliable and similar! On the pair of Rugers that I cut coils I had to cut and try a few times to get them to feel right and similar to each other. It was a lot more hassle than just putting a spring kit in.

The trigger spring is worth it too. I've reshaped trigger springs on  a pair of my Rugers and they work ok but I like the springs that come in kits better.

On edit, my recollection is that I ended up cutting more like 3 1/2 to 4 coils. I ended up with a hammer cocking effort that is greater than that of a pair that have spring kits in them. I cut and tried several times to make sure that the cut springs would pop primers (I used CCI as my test primer). I didn't keep cutting becuase I got tired of it and I didn't want to get to the point where I wouldn't have reliable ignition.

As a side note. those heavy trigger springs can be clipped and sometimes reshaped and used to fix yer wife's curling iron.  They work much better than the originals and yer wife will theink yer brilliant. ;)

Yep. I've replaced and cut a bunch of them. best thing is to order from Wolff. If you order direct from them you can get a 15# Hammer spring-I  then cut 2 coils off them-three coils was a bit light. In addition, the lightened trigger return spring is a good investment- I cut one leg off them and it works great.
