After reading advice on this forum and others and looking over many rifles I finally got mine.  A Pedersoli heavy target in 45-70.  Took it out to the range last weekend at 100 yds.  Through a few trail boss loads downrange just to get a feel then some goex black dawge cartridges.  After a few shots and adjusting the sight I was putting in some good groups.  Didn't draw my Colorado elk tag and some Cabelas Bucks so it made sense.  Now to start working up some bp loads.  Thanks to all for posting on this site.

Will get some pics up soon.

Hi Kurt Congratulations!
My most recent Cabela's bucks purchase was an Uberti '73 Sporting rifle that I was hoping to use in Lousiville next weekend :'( :'( :'(

Try the Lyman 535 gr postell lubed with SPG over .060 Veg. card 68 gr. CTG Federal Large Magnum primers in R-P brass.  My Pedersoli likes it.  :)

Galloway, the difference was night and day.  I was only pushing 13 grains of trail boss.  I had a hard time even hearing the pop and there was a lot of drift.  The Black Dawge groups were really good, I thought for the first time.

Thank Pitspitr:  I will be getting that mold.  Would a large rifle primer work?  I have plenty of starline as that is what the black dawges were.  Can you point me to some black powder dealer on this side of the state?

I use the Fed. Mag. primer because of reloading for my trapdoors. (See the book http://www.the45-70book.com/) I use some starline too but i primarily use W-W and R-P because they hold a larger volume. Since you use Cabela's bucks too, I have been using them to buy my reloading compnents including my Geox CTG. You're in Lincoln, Right? LaVista wouldn't be that far. I'd bet Scheels would have it too. Probably the least expensive place in the Eastern part of the state would be Doc Carlson's in Crofton.
