An Obit For a Friend

Just putting this here because I have to get it off my head.

The accident happened a week ago Sunday, but with all that's been going on my mind sidelined it til now.  I missed the services last Friday cause I was in the hospital with CJ and the new baby.  I'm not going to cut and paste the newspaper blurb because it doesn't mean spit in the ocean to me.

Bob Lee Orum was my friend.  We had a good three year run when everybody thought we were brothers.  He'd come by my house everyday after work and we would ride.  Then on Fridays, we'd take off for the whole weekend.  He loved to tell jokes, each bar we hit had a fresh crowd for him to tell them to, but I heard the same ones over and over as we traveled along.  He loved women, just never found "the one" but that was fine with him.  He was like a magenet when it came to the ladies, pure charisma and lot's of variety.
He always rode his bike like hell was chasing him.  I tried to keep up, but he was just too fast.  He had an 89 Harley FXR and I had an old police Moto Guzzi (like in "The Gauntlet" with Dirty Harry).  One time we stopped for a break on a canyon road and as I smoked my ciggerette, we heard gunfire.  Didn't think nothing of it, just someone plinking off into the canyon.  Then a round hit a few inches from my boot.  Bob didn't think twice, just climbed up the embankment and went after the guy.  I followed.  There we were unarmed and Bob chewed that idiots ass for shooting towards the road.  The man had his pistol in his hand, but seemed to forget all about it.  I think he may have wet himself.  He set his cans up facing the other direction and we went on our way.
He hailed from Carlisle Pennsyvania, near Harrisburg, but his home was here.  I can't believe he's gone.  He lived on the edge and died on it.  There's a lot more I could say about him, but that would take pages and pages.  I'm just sorry we fell out of touch the last few years, but those things happen.  I am better for having knowing him.

Thanks in advance for letting me get that off my chest.

Thanks guys, it just kind of smacked me in the head today.
I am lucky for my healthy grandson, his healthy mother, and a wife who adores me (so she says).  Just had to let it out.

I am Sorry for your Loss Leo.

The loss of a close friend or loved one always reminds me to try to stay in touch with those that are still here. It's to easy to let friends or even family drift.
