Delmonico,

Regarding the early small rifle primers, the only ones I have were seated in early .44 W.C.F. cases  like the one in my avatar.
They measure about .123" high. They may have been slightly higher and may have been reduced slightly in seating.

I then checked the height of some small pistol primers that were originally seated in some early .38 Special b.p. cartridges. They measured .110" tall. They may also have been reduced slightly when they were seated.

Ditto on the small pistol primers in the Hornet, especially for b.p. loads that are the equivalent of the .22 W.C.F.  Comparatively speaking, small rifle primers produced 250-300 f.p.s. less velocity and higher standard deviations!

Interesting, somewhere they seem to have went to the current dimensions.
