Goex versus Goex Express

Goex is advertised as the best one-shot consistency.....................which to me means it must foul badly(my experience)........Goex Express on the other hand is advertised as cleaner burning producing softer fouling which to me means more shots between cleanings.

Any opinions out there on this subject

Much appreciated.

Mc:

My best results have been with Swiss 1½.  I don't compress it all that much and do not FL the cases but rather just neck size.  I have not had tilme to actually check the difference in case capacity between one of my fired cases and one that is "out of the box" so tp speak but have a hunch that there will be a difference and when I find out I will post.  I have a feeling that is what the difference, for me anyway, may be.  My "76 does just fine with the Swiss and in a neck-size only case.   ;)

Hi, Mc

I use Goex Express ffg, and I am pleased with it's properties.

I have tried Swiss 1.5, with various degrees of compression, and found it produced hard fouling for me.  That said, there are many many BPCR shooters who feel it sets the standard in BP.  My theory is that the amount of humidity you have greatly effects the performance of any brand of BP.  I live in New Mexico and we have very low humidity.

I think you may have to try each, and see what works best in your rifle in your corner of the world. :)

I've ran as many as 10 rounds thru a 45-70 sharps loaded with 70 grs of Goex Cartridge without blowtube or wiping, and still was able to get a damp patch thru the bore. Cartridge has also worked very well for me in the 43 Egyptian, which isn't a whole bunch different from the 45-75.
Express powder is definetly a softer, thinner fouling, than the regular grades. But each gun is a mind of its own so only shooting will tell you whether the 4 $ more per pound is worth it or not.
