I have an old ASM 1860 that will accept the R&D drop in conversion cylinder AND the new gated conversion cylinder from Kirst.  Both conversion cylinders are for Piettas.  Both worked with very minimal fitting.

Would that mean that a R&D conversion cylinder for a Uberti does not fit the ASM?

Uberti and Pietta cylinders are different lengths.  The backplate is the same for both.

That may be true for the 1860, but on the 51 and 61 Navies the cylinders are the same and the backing plates are different, at least that's true for the Kirst converters.

Thank you sir.
Then it is posible to shorten with a lathe.
Do you know which one is the longer one?

After some meshuring of the R&D cylinder, the UBERTI cylinder is allmost one mm thicker around the cylinder stop area than the ASM c&b cylinder.

I seem to recall that ASM/Traditions were more like Pietta's. I helped a bud a while ago do his ASM 1860 and we used a Pietta R&D cylinder. Took a bit of fitting, but, it worked out quite well.
