Howdy gents. Had a minor glitch in the getalong on one of my Starrs. I believe that part of the ratchet is worn down, and now doesnt always advance the cylinder. They have been really good guns up to now, with no problems before.

Who might be a good maniac mechanic to work on these?? I heard that there was a guy that would convert them, tune them etc, but cant remember who or where he was. Thanks gents. DM

Sounds like a weak, broken, or bent hand spring. I had this happen to me with my original 44d.a. I took it apart and bent the spring back. Shoots fine now. The hand was a replacement purchased from S&S in N.Y.

Joe, I have been thinking the same thing here of late. Just havent sat down to mess with it yet. I think the spring was kinda weak when I put it back together. Thanks. DM

I have always heard that the Starrs are real bears to work on.  I have an original Double Action and a repro single action.  So far I haven't had a problem with them yet, but I am not looking forward to the day I do have an issue.  Keep us posted on your progress.  Does VTI stock parts for these guns?  https://www.vtigunparts.com/ab2240000Equick/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=158&cat=1863+Starr+Single+Action  Answered my own question.
