Once you have made a small knife cut on the leather at the thickness you want to make , and you have made a straight cut to get a 90 degree on the leather your going to strip, then put your leather next to the stripper, make sure the small knife cut you made fits into the blade, then carfully start pulling the leather your stripping, through slowly, as you do this there will be no more wobble, just the pressure of pulling it through will take any loosness  out of it, just pull slow and carfully, and you will get a good cut. ??? ::) :o 8) ;D  I'm sure Cowboy WC will come in on this one , he tought me.   :D

Hi Dalton, I pulled it out of the box and assembled it last night but I haven't tried cutting a starp with it yet. I was just plating around with it and noticed the wobble and got curious as to whether it still wobbles while yer cuttin'. I tend to make things harder than they really are, I guess. ;D

TW, thanks for sharing yer experience with this tool. I was thinking about shimming with leather or a strip a wood. Maybe I won't need to. What's the consensus of all you leathersmiths out there? Just cut slow and don't worry about it? ;)

Many thanks,

I just clamp the end of the leather to my work surface at the end I'm cutting from and pull smoothly away from the clamp, one hand on the hide and one on the cutter. As long as the thickness is set correctly, I never have any problems. You can cut nicely without the clamp, but it just makes it easier.

Marshall, I can see where that c-clamp would be beneficial. No chasin' the hide all over the table top. Just ketch'em, clamp 'em, and cut 'em! :)

I've trashed a cut before when the hide shifted and had to use the leather some other way.

By the way, I use one of those 4" Vice-Grip C-clamps with the flat swivel ends. That works great. I suppose one of the newer plastic ones would do fine, too.
