2nd Conversion of Belgian Colt

Holy cow, 138 years? Are you sure about that, FCK? I would have guessed the oldtimers were using the Thuers til the end of the 1870s/early 1880s?
Have pulled the bullet, removed the BP and deprimed both cases. They are now shivering in the deep-freeze. Cross fingers that the temps are forcing their "divorce".
I am excited...about both Centaure conversions...and work on the next conversion project with Karl Nedbal.
That is going to be a Centaure Richards+Mason Conversion. Their will be 2 challenges for Karl:#1 he has to make a new barrel because the RM contour is so different from the exitisting C&B one that he cannot reshape it. #2 he does not like making RMs because their clumsy barrels and the gap between conversion ring and cylinder insult his esthetic feelings. Oh, well.
Caliber will be inside lubed .44 Colt, of course

that may be the ticket , then set the lowerer one's end in boiling water...
it's Physics the one inside is conrtacted by cold ,the outer one expands due to heat.....or not

OK pards to take care of jealousness, hate and everything - here is an invitation for you when you come to the Frankfurt/Germany area: phone me, see me, load your own Thuer ammo (with my tool and components) and shoot the Thuer (but clean her afterwards) at our local range here.
How does that sound to you, pards & pardettes? Will that take care of the issue?
I have a little test for you, however: which one is Colt Thuer, Uberti Thuer, Centaure Thuer?

The big clue is the mottled, almost tiger stripe, case coloring on the older Uberti. This was how they were from the 60's - early 80's.

SH: if you pards can figure out a way to import such conversions into the USA I am sure Nedbal will gladly make them for you.
It took him 3 months to make mine. I paid less than € 1000,00 ($ 1470,00 at todays exchange rate) for the conversion but provided the pistol and the extra cylinder for the conversion job. Included in the price was a complete refinishing job, the loading tool, some 40 lubed bullets and 12 cases.
The tiger striped Uberti has the original case colors from the 1970s.

LJW, I thought that Nedbal was going to make a true 1st Model Richards for you at some point in time. Correct?    That's what I would want. It would interesting for you to give him an Uberti 2nd Model Richards and change the ring out for a 1st Model Richards ring.

Seth, I spoke to our stateside conversion expert, Ottawa Creek Bill, about this once and it's not as easy as it appears.    If someone would make this 1st Model ring AND install it I would pay in a heartbeat.

SH: just my feeling when I kicked-off the Nedbal R1 project last year. First Richards, then the Thuer.
Nedbal made a quote for a R1 conversion ring for the Uberti R2 in Feb. 08: approx € 250,00.
You pards are certainly aware that the Uberti conversions are beefed up and specs are off compared to 2nd gens Colts and Centaures

Forgot about the hammer. Would want to get it the same time. Less hassel then trying to find someone that could modify it. Thanks for the reminder Seth. Sure would be nice if we could convince Ottawa to come up with these for us on this side of the pond.

The "hassle" is whereas the ATF defines someone who is simply repairing a handgun & someone who is a manufacturer. Sometimes there can be a gray area with the ATF. I believe this is why Walt Kirst does not sell converted handguns.

The way I see it you have 2 issues:
#1 importation
#1 whoever made the base gun (repro) it will not be true to gauge. This applies to all manufacturers. This implies you have to have a very knowledgable gunsmith who is doing the fitting of conversion ring and/or hammer to the base gun.
